New owner, 2001 with major issues, need a good mechanic in Penticton area
Hello, I'm a new owner of a 2001 track car with a major issue discovered just a short time after purchase, I need a good mechanic that knows S2000s in the Penticton / Oliver area.
Seems this is a case of something that started as an intermittent electrical issue that now is less intermittent and more full time, either a sensor, connector, ECU or somewhere in the wiring. I've thrown a bunch of parts at it, mostly replacing sensors, but nothing has worked so far. It's beyond my diagnostic capabilities so I need a good mechanic to take the car to. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. Thanks https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...e0e0a66b1c.jpg |
Welcome to the board. I believe @mcsinc is out that way. Maybe he can point you in the right direction. Good luck!

Sorry, I don’t know anyone down in that area. I usually use Ivar at kelowna transmission and auto repair. Has been helping me with my car projects for about 20 years now

Thanks guys!
The car is currently in OK Falls, but will eventually live in Kelowna and travel back and forth to Area27 in Oliver. If I can't solve this with someone closer to the car I will use your suggestion. |
The problem started with no VTEC engagement and instead it hit hard limiter at about 6k rpm. Then noticed the speedometer reads zero much of the time or intermittently reads some other weird number that can't be correct, occasionally it reads correctly. We are also getting some temperature codes. So I ordered a vehicle speed sensor and an engine coolant temperature sensor from Honda and the former owner is helping me out by installing those today.
We have already recently done the following on the car... -New Billman timing chain tensioner. -New VTEC solenoid assembly with oil pressure sensor. -New MAP sensor and zip tied the connector as it seemed loose -New spark plugs (showing lean) -New downstream O2 sensor (got a code and found a broken wire) -Valve lash was checked and is good. -Oil change just done using 5w40 synthetic Any help with these symptoms would be welcome |
I was just at Area27 this past Tuesday!
Sorry, I'm not a mechanic so I can't help, but good luck on resolving your issues. I have a few minor stuff to fix on my car as well. |
I just solved my issue!
Or should I say Mitch Egner at Sayban Auto in Oliver solved my issue. With help from the former owner, who has been great, we replaced a few more parts but still had the issue so he took it into Sayban Auto. Mitch diagnosed a few things and suspected the OEM catalytic converter. Sure enough the guts of the cat had collapsed and was blocking flow through the exhaust to the point the engine put itself into limp mode. I was back at Area27 practicing today for a race tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday. Engine was fine but i burned all the way through a set of front pads. |
That's awesome! What are your laptimes for Area27?
|
In this heat only 2:32 but I've done 2:28 in this car before.
Finished 13th out of 30 something today but burned right through a brand new set of pads again today. Will not be able to race tomorrow (Sunday) unless I can "borrow" some front pads. All the parts shops that carry s2000 pads were close by the time I finished the race and are closed tomorrow. |
