Prospective S2000 buyer...

So I may be going to school next fall, which for me will result in probably 2 hours of commuting a day. My current daily driver is a 2002 Mustang GT, which is obviously murder on gas. I need a car that offers speed and performance, but won't kill me on gas and from what I've seen, the S2000 fits the bill perfectly. But how is it as a daily driver? Is it noisy with the top up at highway speeds? Is it drivable in the snow? Is the lack of torque at low r.p.m.'s a nuisance? Any input will be most appreciated!

I daily drive mine, only had it for about 3 months now and love it. The little Wind noise doesn't bother me, but when i get the chance i'm top down anyhow(also coming from a prelude where my passenger door didn't close all the way) Yes drivable in the snow if you're cautious, so i hear(yet to drive in the snow, also get snows). Lack of tq i don't mind, easy driving around town, but if want that
torque its only a few rpm away(y)

I dumped my '06 Mustang to buy my '05 S2k.

You'll enjoy it for sure. No looking back.
In stop and go driving, the S2k had WAY more torque than my POS Mustang (it would stall if you let off the clutch without giving it gas, something the S2K never does).

Hwy wind noise with the top up is not an issue.

The S2K is about 35-40 for fill up at todays prices...it should last you around 300-450km depending on your driving, me personally gotten 380k the most till the light goes on. I daily drive my car aswell and its an awesome car, i like the 2 seater, the racing feel of the cockpit and the placing of the controls. Top up at highway speeds can get pretty noise :p that i gotta admit...but its do-able.....snow...well......that really dpends if your planning to get snow tires...and its just like every other RWD...but remember the s2k has no torque <6000 so it should be easier to drive right?.....the lack of torque can easily be overcome by shifting at higher rpms...:D...reving to 9000 is awesome :p

best thing to do is to testdrive them...there are a few at the Richmond Auto Mall

Awesome, thanks a lot for the input guys! I'm pretty sure I fell in love with this car last year at the International Auto Show, just feeling that silky smooth 6-speed compared to the 5-speed in my 'stang that feels like it was lifted out of a truck. I kid you not, the gearbox in the S2000 felt as good as the Porsche 911 at the same show.... Methinks a test drive is in order...

And VIS2K, was your Mustang a V-6 or V-8 model?

I'd say gas mileage wouldn't be much different compared to your mustang, especially on the highway. I get around 10L/100km, with approximately 70% city driving.

But how is it as a daily driver? It's fine as a daily driver as long as you don't need space - it's a tight fit.

Is it noisy with the top up at highway speeds? Road noise is quite high but not annoying.

Is it drivable in the snow? With good snow tires, it's fine for our west coast winter.

Is the lack of torque at low r.p.m.'s a nuisance? For me, not at all since my previous car was even less torquey.
