Purchasing S2000: Need advice!
Hey guys, I've decided to pick up an s2000. I love it's simplicity, fun factor, and styling! And I want a good opportunity to own one since they won't be produced after 2009 (if I understand correctly).
Now for the questions:
Should I consider importing one from the States? For reference, I can pick up a new 2008 for ~$27k across the border. What are deals like around here? Would servicing a US-purchased car prove to be a hassle around here if I did go that route? Any advice on anything I should consider or where I should purchase (local vs. imported)?
I haven't really checked out any dealerships yet in person, and Honda.ca is a pretty non-descriptive site regarding pricing information, with the only hint being that starting prices are in the low $50k's, which seems a bit crazy to me. What are you guys getting 2007-2009s for these days?
I'd rather pick up something NEW (pretty much prefer the color to be black/black white/black....MAYBE grey/black, but these are minute details right now), but USED works for me as well as long as it's a 2007 model or newer.
Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Riaz

I think if you are going to buy a brand new one and you can find a dealer willing to sell it to you, you are better off buying it in the US and importing it. Even factoring the exchange rate (~1.28) and duty (6.1%) you would still be better off ($27,000x1.28+6.1%=$36,669 + taxes, RIV fee, etc...). Still a lot cheaper than $50k (unless there are some major rebates still).
As for warranty, Honda Canada will not warranty vehicles from the US.
FWIW, there are a few of us with S2000's imported from the US.

i would suggest importing one from the states too since you will be paying less. and if you're lucky canada customs might not even charge you the 6.1% duty.
i imported my s2000 from washington and was never charged the 6.1% duty!! good luck with finding one.
