Xviper -- sounds great! I strongly believe that from a "bang for buck" perspective, shortening your final drive is the most "feelable" mod out there! Congrats!

JL -- I would've never picked up a regular Boxster -- although it's a "Porsche", it just doesn't perform like one, at least IMO. On the other hand, I'm very impressed with the Boxster S. It does have a heavy clutch and longer throws (but all throws are long compared to a S2K shifter! ), but it gives a more "power on demand" feeling especially in city driving. A lot of people try to compare the S2K with the Boxster/Boxster S, but IMO, they're actually very different. Both get going, but how they get there is very different, which directly impacts how you drive the car. Does that make sense?

Richard - nice car! I might be joining you in joining the Porsche club in the near future although it won't be a Boxster I was fortunate to own a 911 a while back and I have never really gotten over selling it althought the S2000 is a heck of a lot of fun for the money.

I totally know where you're coming from regarding the Boxster S. I came away thoroughly impressed when I test drove an '01. It just "feels" a lot faster than the S2000. Just out of curiousity, did you consider getting an older 996 or even a 993?

What mods do you have planned for he Boxster? After visiting the Claus Ettensbuger Corp (?) this past Saturday, I can't wait to be able to "TechArt" my own ride. Just be prepared for sticker shock (and you thought Spoon was expensive!) I think the Formula GT wheels (in black) would look hot on your car:

The good news is that they aren't too expensive.

THanks man -- I appreciate it!

Do you have a site I could check out for those rims and others? Also, you mention the wheels aren't too expensive -- approximately how much do they go for?

The RUF North Amer. distributor is based in Van (actually I live very close to it in Kits) so I was looking at what they have for the Boxster S...but you're right, prices are definitely much higher for aftermkt. goodies!

I'm planning to go slow on the mods on this one...I think one of the reasons I got "bored" with the S2K is that I did too much too fast....oh well, live and learn!

If you want the Formula GTs, you pretty much have to go through Claus Ettensberger Corporation since they are the exclusive importer of TechArt tuning for North America. You can call them at 800-766-0064 for a dealer referral. The GTs are available in 18 an 19 for your car. Although some may prefer a silver 2 or 3 piece wheel with a polished lip for Porsches, I have personally seen this wheel (in black) on a black Boxster and it looked hot!

The 18x8.5 (front) wheel retails for $569.95 while the 18 x 10.5 (rear) retails for $659.95. These are the prices at Tweeks and Performance Products (two large, albeit expensive Porsche catalog retailers). I'm sure you can find a better deal if you shop around. Although the Formula GTs are not forged, they are very strong. Note that TechArt usually outsoures the manufacturing of their wheels to large companies (example ATS Wheels made some of their older wheels).

Be sure to sign up to receive the Tweeks and Performance Products catalog (they acquired Automotion, a great Porsche catalog retailer a few years ago).

Now for the bad news. As far as I know, Porsche bulletin boards suck!

Oh yeah -- Porsche forums are HURTING!!

Honestly, I'm not looking towards new rims yet -- I actually like the Sport Design IIs on it right now a lot! Maybe a kit and some performance parts...we'll see!

Here are some more pics of the wheel. It looks super-hot with the red calipers!

if it's good enough for a 996TT, it's good enough for your Boxster S!
