WTB: S2000 for $30-$35k

Hello everyone, I just joined s2ki. I have always wanted a S2000 since I was a teenager. Now that I am financially stable and I am ready to buy my childhood dream.

My budget is between $30000 to $35000 for a stock S2000 or lightly modded one, preferably no silver or black. Please let me know what you have. Have a great day!

DaGou 05-17-2016 04:17 AM

That is enough cash to get whatever you want.

colnagotifosi 05-17-2016 05:38 AM

Would you be willing to bring in a US car from the East Coast if you could get a one-owner, dealer maintained, bone-stock, OEM, mint, like new, unmolested, NFR (red)/over black 2004 with 20,223 miles? Haven't decided if It's going to be sold yet, probably in mid-to-late June, but considering it for that price range assuming your figures are CDN (or even quicker sale if they are USD!). Can't PM you so text me your email to six-six-7, seven-8-six, one-8 two seven. Like you, I'm old and financially stable and love these toyz! (Not the car in my signature, handling this for a local 70 year old friend/owner who has "aged out" and can't drive any more).

$30 to $35k is in CAD. I thought it is obvious as I am posting at the Vancouver section. Sorry for the confusion.

I am hoping to buy one locally if possible. Colnagotifosi, I will keep yours in mind.

Thanks!

I'm considering upgrading to a newer S2000, in which case my current 2004 AP2 with 51,000 on the clock will be for sale.

PM me if you'd like to discuss.

DaGou 05-18-2016 07:59 AM

in USD you are at 23K to 27K in round numbers, that is still alot. You did not specify year or mileage. YOu can get AP1s in the low teens. A low mileage AP2 can be found in the low $20s. The more mods the lower the price, bone stock brings the highest price.

s2kcanuck 05-18-2016 09:23 AM

DaGou is right about the pricing. One thing I don't know is the cost of "Canadianizing" the car (things like daytime running light conversion kits) and going thru a long checklist of requirements laid down by Transport Canada, but any Honda dealer or registered/approved mechanic can do that for you.

Look Here ... and Here ... to learn about that process.

The big thing to look out for is a clean record, which is not always easy. This applies to US or Canadian cars. Many accidents go unreported, and in some states even rebuilds slip thru the CarFax reports. Having said that, there are likely some really good deals to be had south of the border, but it takes a lot of poking around to make sure the car has a clean record.

FYI 2006-2009 AP2's do not need anything as they have DRL's already

I did a little digging after reading this, and yes, Honda started equipping some models in the USA with DRLs in 2006, S2K included. That would preclude having to add the feature to "Canadianize" the car. The application of DRLs in the US has been rather inconsistent over the years, but given the recent progress with white LEDs this seems to be a common feature these days. And some applications look very cool, having become a visual design feature as much as a safety feature :)

So AP2s from 2006 onward probably just need to make it thru the multi-page inspection checklist, which should be a no-brainer if the car is in good shape and stock.

Nice!

S2kcanuck, I can't PM you because I am a new member. Any other way to get a hold of you?

Thanks guys for the information about importing from US. It is very helpful.

My preferences are below:
Late Ap1 or early Ap2
No mod or lightly modded
White, yellow, blue, no silver and black
One owner
Less than 100k kms
No accidents or minor accident

You'll need a Late AP2 ('06 or later) if you want DRL. These cars are also easily tuneable with the Hondata FlashPro for some wonderful mid range power. Some shade of Silver is the most predominate color overall but no so predominate in the late cars. Color was last on my priority list -- so, of course, I ended up with an '06 Silverstone. :) Lots of S2000s on the US west coast.

Michu, sorry to say I've decided to keep my current car, since I do have a couple of other major things that need attention around the house and the money would be better spent on those.

I struggled for a couple of days to make the decision, but in the end my head won over my heart. :(

FYI, I was looking at the Imola Orange for sale on Autotrader by a Honda dealer in Quebec, very low kms and previously owned by a retired couple. By the time I paid the BC taxes and shipping the car west, it would have cost over $46K! Typically you can buy used S2Ks in Quebec for reasonable prices, but this one is so close to "new" it'll fetch a premium price.

I'm willing to bet the car will sell quickly because it's such a rare color and is accident-free.

Chuck S, I now also want the late Ap2 after hearing from you. Hows the drive by wire compared to throttle cable?

S2kcanuck, that's too bad for me. I saw the orange s2k on autotrader too. How do you know it's accident free and previously owned by retired couple? Do you know what it takes to buy the car remotely and gets it ahipped here? Thanks!

I traded several emails with the Honda dealership in Val-d'Or (a pleasant guy named Etienne) who gave me that information. The dealer has to make a profit, of course, which accounts for the *very* high advertised price. It's obvious where the prices of low-mileage stock S2Ks are headed.

He also told me they were in no hurry to sell, so I suspect the price will remain non-negotiable. Shipping the car to this region would cost over $1000 depending on method. They can ship to your favorite local Honda dealer, who would process the BC paperwork and arrange the PST/GST. The local dealer is also required to do an inspection before ICBC can provide license and insurance.

Regarding the drive-by-wire question, I'd love to know more about the differences/advantages. The VSA feature requires it, among other things. I have heard from more than one source that the 2004-2005 cars turned out to be the best of the bunch, drive-by-wire notwithstanding. True AP1 aficionados would argue about that, no doubt.

CCAP1 05-19-2016 07:35 PM

I imported my car from the states a while ago. Having DRLs or not shouldn't be a deciding factor... An hour at Canadian Tire will have them installed with little hassle or cost at all. I can't remember the exact details but, they are used to this modification since they do this for a lot of the imported vehicles.

koncha 05-23-2016 02:58 PM

You said no silver, but I thought I'd post this ad I saw anyways (not my car):

http://wwwa.autotrader.ca/a/Honda/S2...PO&orup=1_15_8

2005 Silverstone Metallic AP2
16,500 km
Price is a little high..

Michu 05-23-2016 08:54 PM

Thanks Koncha. Ya it's not my favourite color

DDonovan 05-27-2016 10:38 AM

Too funny...,I have an 07 and when I imported it (used a broker), I was charged for a DRL conversion. I think I got scammed.., lol

alSpeed2k 05-29-2016 05:36 PM

^Lol, Dave, definitely got scammed there!
