This is still an issue. If you receive a pm from someone who has either zero or very few posts do not respond or email whomever they say for you to contact. If they attempt to take the transaction from the forum to email or any other means, be cautious.

Just banned and added username "bmondet" to the scammers list as well as two associated email addresses, hhoutdoorstr@gmail.com and bobmiddalliance@gmail.com.
Beware of any PM you receive in response to your WTB listings that are vague, especially if they are worded like this:

Guys, this ongoing, with some older accounts getting hacked.
If you receive a pm from Couna777 about a WTB ad, it is a scam, this account has been hacked and it is now banned. The email address being used is richard4glenn@gmail.com
Anytime you receive a pm from anyone responding to a WTB ad, google all their information including the username, name, email address, telephone #, address (if provided) and always be skeptical when they don't want to use PayPal.
If you have any doubts, pm me or any other active Site Mod to help.
Thanks

Bump as this is still an issue. Please do not respond or email the link in the pm, click the report button so we can address it and ban the offenders.
Thanks

List updated, this is still an issue. Do not interact with anyone sending a pm trying to sell with a zero post history. Have a question, report it. Please.

This is still happening.
If you get a pm from someone saying "contact so and so he/they have the ****** and email them" this is a scam.
