235/40 on What offset with 17X8?
 

Wondering here what offset with a 17X8 wheel. The chart suggests a +54 but will the 235 tires work. The manufacturer of the tire says it will but will the +54 offset be enough or should I go with a +56 or +59 to keep the outside tire the same as the fender like factory?

Are you talking about the front or rear? In the front, with a +54 offset, you should be able to fit the 235 on there. But what are you using on the rear?

Spa-zz I was going to run a 17X9.5 with a 255 and +59offset on the rear and the 235 in the front. You know of anything for sway bar that may need replacement as well?

Not sure what you mean. Are you asking for a suggestion on a replacement sway bar? If so, let us know what you want from the car and then maybe we can make a recommendation.

Kinda like that SPa-zz. I have read on other posts that by going with such a large size in the front an aftermarket sway bar is recommended.

I see. Well if you are planning to autocross, and it's in your budget, get yourself a Gendron or Comptech adjustable.

If you're not planning to autocross, you probably don't need to do a whole lot. You still have 20 mm of stagger front to rear. Look up the tread widths of the tires you are looking at, and figure out what the true width stagger is. Compare this to the OEM tire width stagger of 1.4". If it's less, and you don't want increased oversteer, you have two options. You can adjust the alignment to increase understeer to bring the balance back, or you can get a bigger front bar. As far as alignment goes, there are a lot of things you can do. You could run less camber in the front, more camber in the rear, or more toe-in in the rear. This of course can affect tire wear. If you don't want to go that route, the sway bar might be your best choice.

Like I said if you are not autocrossing on race tires, you probably don't need that much more stiffness. I applaud you for even thinking about the effects of reducing stagger, it seems most people just slap whatever tires on their car and then wonder why the back it into a tree on the first high speed corner.

Oh- if you are on coilovers, you could also change spring rates. Cheers.
