If you are talking the best tire size for the stock wheels?

If you don't plan on running S02s then the optimal sizing would be
205/55/16 Front
245/45/16 Rear.

Cliff notes, the contact patch of the S02 is as wide as most tires contact patch at 245mm.

So to equal the S02s you need to go up to 245.
The trade off is you have to go with a lower profile sidewall this will affect your speedo by 2-5% Will report you are going faster than you are.

After all the debate this seems to be the best combo.
For upsizing someone else can fill you in as well as offset information, assuming thats what you are asking.

Good info. Anybody know the corresponding wheel withs you should use. Currently the fronts and rears are different however some of the alternate larger wheel sets I have been looking at only offer one width in the larger sizes so for example, in the 17 I would a have to go to a 7" wide wheel and in an 18 a 7.5" width. Can I put both different width tires on the same width wheels on the car ok??

Go to the tire manufactuer web site or tirerack.com or probably any other online tire store. They will have tire specifications. They include min/max wheel widths and outside tire diameters (so you can minimize speedo errors).

This is the proper upgrade size
Recommended Tire Size:
205/50-17 Front
225/45-17 Rear

This should not throw off the speedo, if it does it may be <1% and that is just because of difference is tire construction.

However you will want to double check the contact patch of the rear rubber compared to the 225/50/16 S02.

If the tire you choose is less than you will want to run 245/45/17 in the rear, it is tire dependant.

So you are saying these are teh recommended sizes for a 17" upgrade but any reason you only focus on a possible size adjustment in the rear tire patch? What about the front. And of couse then the next obvious question..................what about for 18" wheels.

I think this is a little off. I checked an '04 car yesterday and the stock sizes on it was:
215/45-17 front
245/40-17 rear.

You still need the same contact patch (more or less if you want to relate well to stock), so keep with the same 215 front and 245 rear. It's also known that the 16" OEM fronts (205) are just a tiny bit narrower than other 205 tires and hence, this may be why Honda went to 215 in the '04. Some guys have gone to 255's for the rear and 225's for the front but your wheels must be wide enough to handle this.
Check the charts to see which 18" tire with those widths will give you the same overall diameter. This will keep your speedo about the same.
