anybody running 18's with bending problems
Ok I've checked through most of the threads and I see most people prefer 17's on our cars because they run better and 18's are more of a bling thing.
My question is are the newer rims made better now.The last time I bought aftermarket rims was 6yrs ago for my GSR.18" Racing Hart C5's(the hot rims at the time)My car wasnt lowered I had the rims for 4 months and the 3 times I hit a pothole they bent.It cost $90 to repair each time.I got sick of the shitty ride and repair costs so I went back to stock.
I'm about to order either Work or Volk rims for my car.The price difference isn't much between 17's and 18's.Will the 18's still bend or should I just get 17's.Also I have no plans on lowering my car...thanks

I bent one of the 18" BBS RCs I had on my GTI....it was a very minor bend (the tire still held air just fine), but it can certainly happen. Tires were 225/40-18s.
For me personally it's just not worth it. I was always worried about possibly bending the rims, but then some of the roads around me are pretty shitty. I'm sure a forged rim would be less likely to bend.

My perspective on 18's wheels is different. If you really going to bend that, youre really going to bend that. But the way i see it was, 225 40 18 seemed to be pretty standard size for cars. Porsche is a good example of this. The difference of thickness in tires between 215 45 17 going 225 40 18 is very minimal, if you think that you can bend the 18, its not much different than having 17 on AP2. Bottomline, just get the 18 and the car will turn out to be a headturner

If my memory serves me right, weren't the Racing Hart rims I saw that on the Porche forum. A rim (spokes seperated from the rim) literally disintegrated during racing.
If bending is your only problem, consider yourself lucky then.
