BFG Rival for SCCA 2013
We expect the BFGoodrich g-Force Rival to be a popular choice for SCCA autocross competitors driving in the Street Tire and Road Tire classes.
Current SCCA autocross rules state that any new tire must be available in a minimum of 6 sizes across 4 rim diameters by April 30th for the tire to be eligible for competition for the year. Traditionally, new tire launches have rolled out with a variety of sizes and rim diameters available on day 1, therefore easily meeting the SCCA requirement. Because the BFGoodrich g-Force Rival is coming to us size by size, literally as BFG produces each one for the first time, we have some product in stock today, but not enough to meet the SCCA's "6 and 4" rule. The wording of the SCCA rule as currently written leaves room for interpretation on today's BFG Rival scenario, where it's prior to April 30th, and there are less than 6 sizes in 4 rim diameters available.
So to clarify eligibility of the tire the SCCA has made the following statement, clearing the BFGoodrich gForce Rival for national competition, effective immediately:

The SEB has reviewed section 13.3 of the Solo Rule Book with regards to tire eligibility, specifically, the question of 13.3.B and the words "by April 30". It is clear to the SEB that the language used in this section is ambiguous and fails to communicate the intent of 13.3 in a concise manner to our suppliers and our competitors. We must take responsibility for the fact the rule is poorly written. The SEB will submit a new draft of 13.3 for member comment. Well respected members and advisory committees of the Solo community differ in their interpretation of this section.
The SEB has communicated with BFGoodrich and there is high confidence they will meet tire size/diameter requirements for the 2013 Solo schedule. We want the membership to know the use of these tires in competition prior to April 30th is not a rules violation. It is in the best interest for all involved to give guidance now.
The BFG Rival tire will be eligible for National Solo Events immediately and will remain eligible for 2013 provided section 13.3 is met in its entirety by April 30, 2013.
