Buying new set of tires, need advice please

I was washing my car yesterday and as I was walking towards it, I noticed my tires looked a little funny. So I checked them out and they have mutated into slicks!! My original tires wore out at 16K, so I replaced them with Dunlop SP9000 thinking they would be close to the smae performance, a bit cheaper and wear better. Well, at 38K I can safley say that they were not what I expected.

Dunlop SP9000's have done nothing but let me down. The initial performance of the tire sucked, very easy to peel out and let loose pretty quickly on corners. They didn't wear much better than stock tires either.
I'm going to start putting less miles on my car now and think I want to go back to the stock setup from Tirerack ($584.18 shipped, not M&B).

So my question is:
Are the OEM tires still the best "all around" performance tires for the money? I don't need anything super-duper special, and I certainly don't want anything like the Dunlops...

Thanks for all advice
(oh, and is there a discount for us on tirerack :-) ?

Consider the deal Tire Rack has on Yokahama AVS Intermediates. You can get 4 rears and 2 fronts for $409 delivered.

At 37,600 miles I just replaced SO3's with OE SO2's. Only got about 8,300 miles on each of 2 sets of rears. The OE SO2's were designed especially for the S2000....somebody knew what they were doing. It handles like new again! Really sweet!
For around $600 you can have a set of OE SO2's delivered from Tire Rack. The Yokahama's may be fine tires but I would and did spend the extra $200 in a heartbeat. Give Jim a call for advise.

Actually the total for a full set of S02's came to $595.98 including 2 day FedEx from Tirerack's Schreveport, Louisiana facility to Hobe Sound, FL (A bit North of Palm Beach).

Prices for Bridgestone's at least seem to have come down across the board. A full set of S03's in August of 2001, with 245 rears, ran $788 from Tirerack and that was a good price at the time.

Deadpedal,

Most people do like the OE S02 tire. They really work with the car and handle well. I have not seen a better tire on the car. They tuned the S02 for the S2K and the tire, even though it has a low tread wear rating, it does give comparable tread life with better handling.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you
