Can anyone help me with the size of these tires (pics)?
 

Hey guys, looking for some advice. I am looking to get a set of 17" Advan RGs in gold for my 2003 Silversone Metallic S2K. However I am a little concerned about tire size. I have included two pictures below. The car's are practically identical (kit/wheels) with the exception of color. On the custom colored S2K (the one from artnmotion, I'll refer to it as #2), the RG's look PERFECT, exactly how I want mine to fit. On the silverstone (#1) however, the wheels appear somewhat "bigger" (i.e. they stick out more on the sides. Since I believe both are the same size wheel I thought it might be due to tire size giving that increased impression of width, although the fact that the Silversone does not seem to be lowered may add to the effect).

I happen to know (because it was featured on OnlineShowoff, that the Silverstone one is running this setup:
17" x 7.5" +48 225/40/17
17" x 8.5" +50 255/40/17

My question to you all is do you agree that there is a difference in tire size and if so, any idea what size the custom colored S2K (#2) may be running??? Thanks in advance for any assistance, this is driving me crazy because I love the wheels, but I dont want them to look quite as "wide" as they do on the silversone S2K (#1).

Are you sure the silverstone isn't running:
225/45/17 and 255/40/17? I don't know if 225/40/17 exists...


As far as the custom color S2000's tires, it is hard to tell unless you know what the wheel sizes are.
Do you have a list of 18 inch Advan RG sizes that fit the S2000?
Or do you know what brand of tires is on the custom color S2000?

If it is 18x7.5 +48mm and 18x8.5 +50mm...
My best guess is 225/40/18 and 245/35/18.

There is no way to tell from a picture. There are too many variables like wheel size, offset, camber and the section width of the individual tires.

My assumption was that the wheel size was the same on both cars (because I dont think Advan makes any 18's that fit) so the wheel size would be the same on either car. They do look bigger on the second car though. He lists the wheels as this on Onlineshowoff:

17' 7.5 Gold Advan RG's Front rolling on Nitto 555 Extreme Performance 225 by 40 by 17
17' 8.5 Gold Advan RG's Rear rolling on Nitto 555 Extreme Performance 255 by 40 by 17

Jim: Since the RGs don't appear to come in the proper offset of 18's I think we could safely say both sets of wheels are the same size so we do know wheel size, and offset. Couldn't we estimate a tire size by that?

So now my quesiton for you is that if he is in fact using 18's on there, would there be any detrimental effects to running 7.5 all around? Would that loose any width from the stock wheel setup or simply increase the width of the fronts?

If there are any ill effects, how bad would they?

Forgive the number of quesitons, but I am coming from a FWD background and am totally not used to having different wheel widths in the back :D

I would love to run the 18" setup if the handling wasnt affected too adversely.

18x7.5 in rear is bad...performancewise.
Looks terrible in my opinion also...it's too skinny.

No less than 18x8.5 in rear...and for that, I would look for +55mm and above.

You want to run at least 255/35/18 in rear...and I wouldn't put that tire on anything less than 18x8.5. Go 18x9 if possible.

The stock tread is about as wide or wider than 255/35/18 ES100 (yokohama) and Toyo T1-s.

Thanks a ton for all your help. I guess I have some thinking to do. I really like they way the 18's "fit" with the wheel wells better, but I wouldnt want to do it if there was a HUGE hit in performance. If the difference wasn't that huge I might consider it.

It looks to me as if C-West themselves chose the thinner set up for their display car:

I guess it all comes down to what I'm gonna be doing to the car. As long as it won't make the car dangerous to drive, I may still consider the 18 x 7.5 all around because I would rather have the nicer look to them and sacrifice a little of the traction.

Again any other comments or help are welcome (especially if you have any experience with this wheel in either fitment. Thanks again!

Scratch that, just talked to a guy at C-West.

That S2000 is running:

Front: 8.5J +35 17inch
Rear: 9J +45 17inch

Now how they get away with that I don't know, I would be sure that that would rub, but those cars are pretty low and one is a track car so I would think they would want to avoid rubbing. Dunno.

Any thoughts?
