Default Car Feels "Floaty"

Hello,
I have been experiencing what i can only call a "floaty" feeling in my car during aggressive cornering (at even moderate speeds) and crusing at high speeds (above 80mph). on the highway when cruising the car will sort of shift around in the lane by itself meanwhile i have to correct it.
during the corners i spoke of i feel like the back is about to go out when i know that it is a speed the car can handle. i know it is not the tires for sure. brand new set of kumho mx's. i have seen some excessive inner tire wear on the fronts which to me may signify that i need an alignment. could this be causing the problem? any other ideas? also all the tire pressures are all set around 32psi. thanks!!!

New tires can seem floaty with all that rubber between you and the road. After a few hundred miles, I either get used to it or the rubber wears down and hardens some, or both. Since you have an '00, may be time for an alignment or possibly new shocks if you have lots of miles. What size Kumho MX's?

Even though the MX is an excellent handling tire it is not going to give the traction of the S02. It is a narrower tire than the S02 in the rear and it is a wider front tire so you will feel the back end a little looser at the limits. As the release compound is worn off most of that feeling will go away.

This is what I felt when I went to a 225 & 245 setup. Did you do that too? I'm back on oem s-02s now and its perfect.

i currently have all OEM size tires, however, the trear wear on the inside of my front tires is pretty bas compared to the outsides. could a bad front end alignment cause this feeling? thanks

I have the MX's also. 215-45-17 front and 255-40-17 rear. I have about 400 miles on them now. This tire has a lot of tread on it! So, it has a good amount of squirm. The rear is very loose at 32 psi. I am at 35 to 36 psi all around and it is much better. I will also be putting in more rear camber when I get an alignment. This tire grips almost as well as the S02's when you get the pressures figured out.

Check your alignment. Excesive camber (definetly negative) creates a "floaty" feeling at higher speeds and cornering because in both situations, the amount of tire contacting the ground decreases. It will also cause poor breaking beacuse of the same reason.
I see it a lot from guys that plus size their wheels and or lower their vehicles.

My new tires felt floaty as well. I just went to 38psi and after a few hundred miles (break in period) they feel great.

I agree with everyone. Give the tires time to break in and you should be good to go. The alignment will play a part in handling. I think what you are feeling is tramlining. Checkout our web site for things you can do to reduce it.
