Confused. A little help would be nice.
 

I bought ap2v1 rims finally. However I'm not sure upon which tire to go with. I've done the tire decision guide on tire rack.

I'm going to get all seasons, but I don't know what kind I should go with.

What has worked well for you all?

I'd like the most "bang for the buck" tires.


I've heard some good things about the khumo ASX Ecsta, thoughts on this?

All season tires on an s2k?? Probably not the best choice. It is a sports car designed for ultra high or maximum performance tires. It's not a BMW 3-series Cabrio. :tipwink:

If you now have 17" wheels, consider the Bridgestone RE050PP. Also, looks like TireRack really liked the new Sumitomo HTR Z III, which are very reasonably priced.

are you going to be driving in snow? if not i would recommend the Kumho SPT. i had those on my last S in 225-45-17 and 255-40-17

also, the spt side wall is softer than a max performance summer tire but that is to be expected. it does fairly well in the rain and decent in the dry. it breaks very predictably.

The car will be driven in the snow. Three times a year at most.

You shouldn't be driving on snow with anything even remotely related to summer only tires. I would look into something that is much more all-season oriented if you plan on driving on snow. I have the SPT's on my car now and I had to make a quick fill up before I stored the car. There was only a slight bit of snow of the ground, but let me tell you, it was an adventure that I rather not do ever, ever again.

I was leaning towards the khumo ecsta all seasons.

park your car those three days and carpool or call in sick!! that's what i would do. why compromise all of that performance to just be able to drive in snow for 3 days?

this depends on how you define bang for your buck.....
If you are looking at strickly cost with no regards to performance then yeah the ASX is ok. But the ASX is junk compared to other tires in it's category.

I ran a quick search to see what tires are offered in pairs for the stock sizes (215/45/17 and 245/40/17)

BFG has a new tire in that category that you might give a try.....i know their "Traction TA" is a better tire than the ASX so one could only assume this new "g-Force Super Sport A/S" would be as well. However the tire is still relatively new to North America so I don't have experience or info to back that up. The tire is still relatively cheap @ $112 & $144 respectively.

Obiviously the Yokohama ADVAN S.4. and the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season are quality tires but you have to be willing to spend a little extra upfront.

I think the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S is decent, but over priced slightly when compared to others.
