Does having a non-staggered setup hurt?
hey I tried to do a search but no luck, I was wondering if the experts here can tell me if having a non-staggered setup will hurt the balance/handling of an OEM stock Ap2 S2k. I know it be a lot easier to rotate tires for track used, but wanted to double check with the tire gods.
I talked to some guy who track his car and he has 17x8.5 all around, otherwise known as non-staggered. He said it help eliminates understeer, you can also brake later. Oversteer is another story. All in all, alot depends on the driver. Coilovers setting also help understeer and oversteer if you have them
The short answer is YES!. Your car WILL BE susceptible to high speed oversteer, which "can be" extremely dangerous in the hands of an inexperienced driver. The car will become very easy to rotate in low speed turns.

if you do not know how to drive a non-staggered set up, it can be VERY dangerous. you will over steer a lot and possibly spin out at the worst timing. if you are careful, experienced and KNOW what you are getting yourself into, then that's a different story.
thanks for the advice, my first RWD car was the E46 M3, spun out like first two weeks I got it when the back end came loose underspeed on a turn. Don't want to go through that again. I guess I'll need more time on the track before i go non-staggerd.
The reason I asked initially is someone has some nice Prodrive G7 for sale but they were non-staggerd. I'll just wait till spring, cause the weather is only gonna get worse here in Omaha.
