Thumbs up Effect of rim width on section width

Is there some rule of thumb out there for how section width of a tire is effected by rim width.

I did find a reference on the web that for every plus, minus

changes characteristics of tire... but nothing crazy.. squared off tires are best for protection and best to have tire seated properly.

pulled or squashed dont seat as perfect as squared..

remember all tires run different tho.. so 285 on some 10's is sqaure whereas other brands is pulled or squashed..

i wouldnt worry about it to much considering the changes between brands/models ull never get what your looking for.

for performance id say square the tire.. only reason to pull is to have wider rim w/ less contact patch.. or have the contact patch further out w/o rubbing fender

So there is no real way to approx the exact amount.

Only thing you can assume is that a smaller rim will cause the section width the go down and vice versa.

But from what you said it is best to try to get the section width (once mounted) to = the width of the tire for the best traction.

yeah,

all tires differ tho..

so just go with whats reccomended.

on each makers site itl say whats reccomended... stay in middle and thats ideal.

i.e. stock rear 7.5 fits 245 perfect.. front fits 215 perfect (this being yoko avs es100..)

but if you were to a..... So2 then... the tires would need to be 205/225 because they run a lot wider.

so u cant break it down to an exact science unless you do what i do and order the same exact tires BFG KDW2 225/40 255/35 everytime and just change the rim out to different widths and offsets

With the custom set of rims coming in and not using the rule of thumb I motioned before vs what setups I know fit and does not rub due to fender modifications I will be going with 225/265 and possible a 235 front (test fit on the 235' sit is right on the limit as to what was on there before) for the street and if the 235 does fit then I would dial in a bit more camber in the rear to fit a set of 275

yoursetups arent even close to being agressive and wil fit,

one thing you dont realize is in front caster grab,

our cars have very agressive caster and when you turn and go up hill no matter what the suspension the caster will grab the fender and pull it up/out/off

are these cast wheels? or forged. because from what it sounds like u dont have many options... seems like a cast 1 piece wheel w/ big lips maybe an axis.

to me just reading soudns like your trying to newbie custom fit some wheels w/o knowing the ins'outs of the car as far as suspension travel relating to rubbing, tire fitment related to rubbing and caster etc

2 Piece Volk GT-7's

I did not have a problem with the 8+45 225 in the front when turning hard on the track

I think you contradicted your self

agressive meaning sticking out, their not sticking out far.... therefore they will fit..

the caster is what to worry about in any instance... might fit fine in straight line, but if you try and put a huge tire on them i.e. 235 then the caster will be an issue.

THE rim itself and its offset is fine, nothing overly agressive to worry about

THE tire itself needs to be thought about moreso.. taking into consideration caster

ok I understand what you were talking about.

You are referring to how the caster/camber comes into play when the wheels are turned and you hit a bump that causes the suspension to compress.
