general tire question
 

pretty soon i will be ditching the Sonars (stupid stupid previous owner), so i was looking at Falkens.

now during my search, i found that the Beta 451s come in 245/45/16 for the rear and 225/50/16 for the front.

now since our stockers are 55 in the front and 50 in the rear should the falken set up be ok with the shorter sidewalls? or should i look at another tire?


i dont want any ill-effects in handling.

Im not sure about the size issue, look in the tire forums, however if you dont want any ill handing problems, then the oem s-02's are the best dry tire for the s-2000. I.M.O. drive safe.

Bridgestone Potenza S-02 tires:

Front: 205 55 16, Overall diameter 25" Revs 833 revs per mile

Rear: 225 50 16, Overall diameter 24.8" Revs 840 revs per mile



The aspect ratio dictates the sidewall height based on the width of the tire. For example, the sidewall height of a 225 50 series tire is 50% of the width of the tire. A 45 series tire (aspect ratio of 45) does not necessarily have a lower profile sidewall than a 50 series tire. Keep in mind that there are differences in sizing from one tire manufacturer to another.

My advise to you is to call up a dealer that deals Falken tires and ask for the specifications. I have stated the specs for the OEM tires above. If the overall diameter of the rear tires are different on the Falkens, your speedo will be off.

As far as performance is concerned, (due to change in roll center) the S2k is a fine sports car, but it is still a street car. A street car is nowhere near as sensitive as a racecar. I personally would stay with the OEM tires because they have awesome grip. The falcons do not have near the grip as the S-02's. If you get the Falkens, don't go to fast.

Those tire sizes will work fine. The front rim is pretty narrow so a 225 on it works better with a fairly stiff sidewall.
