Thumbs up Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 vs Fuzion ZRis?

Howdy,

I'm up for new tires on my my04 to replace my RE050's - 5mm up front and 3mm in the rear after 17,000 mi, so I think its time to buy.

After searching the threads and reading a bit, I'm convinced I want the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's on my stock rims, or maybe Fuzion ZRi's, but I have a couple questions I couldn't find answers to - someone help me out!

Some background info - my driving is mostly grand touring and in the twisties at speed, with some extended highway driving, and the S is my only car. Snow is not a real concern, and I don't autocross. Two things I don't like about the stock Bridgestones is their poor wet weather traction and the fact that they start to feel greasy on hot days of gt driving.

First, does anyone have any experience between the Goodyear F1 GS-D3s and the Fuzion ZRi's? Most of what I've read is comaprisons for pre my04s and SO2s - I'm looking for 04+ tire size comparisons...

1. For the Goodyears, the TireRack sizes are 215/45 front and 245/40 rear, but I've read people put 250/40 or 255/40 on their rear stock rims. Why? Is this to counter the wider front tires? Am I fine with 245/45 or is there a better width for me?

2. What kind of mileage can I expect from these Goodyears? Anyone clocked over 24,000 mi? Are they worth the cost over a less expensive tire?

3. I read that these tires are quiet, but get louder as they wear. Do they get louder than RE050's, or just louder than new F1's/ZRi's?

4. I'm thinking of replacing my stock springs with aftermarket for a 1"-1.5" drop (maybe Espiliers). Will the wider F1's and a drop cause me any problems?

5. Do these tires' characteristics change much from hot to very hot? If I work them hard to they start to get noticably greasy?

6. I read that the Fuzions feel heavy, likely due to the softer sidewalls, but this was compares to SO2's. What about RE050's?

Thanks for the info,

id go with something wider

they say that the oem 215/45/17 tire is narrower than a standard 215.

i personally would go wider with the goodyears because i think they run a tad narrow

You might want to consider the Kumho MX's. Mine get installed Wednesday, I can't wait to get rid of these ES100's. People really seem to like the MX's on the S2k. They people seem to like the Goodyears too, I don't know much about Fuzion.

The goodyears will hold up to heat very well btw. A guy I work with runs them on his Vette, and he loves them.

The Goodyear is a higher performance tire in wet and dry thatn the Fuzion. Only you can decide if it is worth the extra money but the are a better handling tire. I have driven them many times and they are not noisy in my opinion. They can get noisy if they wear unevenly but that would be true on all tires. Car and Driver just rated them number one.
If I can help let me know.

The Goodyears test well, but people complain the sidewalls are soft and the handling feels spongy. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I haven't owned them.
