I am curious about tire performance testing...
I have been shopping around fopr new tires and have read everything I can find on several models trying to make a decision. I realize that more than just "stickyness" plays into the overall performance of a tire and that the same tire may perform differently on different cars but...I noticed something interesting as I was looking at the performance comparisons done by the Tirerack. I am not saying the tests are flawed or scewed or anything else...just that the numbers are interesting.
If all you knew about these 3 tires were that they were tested by the same people on the same model car, what would you say about them? 225/45 17 225/40 18 225/45 17 laptime (wet) 34.01 34.78 32.94 laptome (dry) 31.64 31.84 31.3 cornering (wet) 0.8 0.87 cornering (dry) 0.93 0.93 0.94 slolom (wet) 5.11 4.97 slolom (dry) 4.66 4.94 4.73 braking 50-0mph (wet) 99.4 99.6 92.5 braking 50-0mph (dry) 83.1 86.9 81.2 |
You're missing a few numbers. What's the deal with the 225/40/18, it's a larger wheel compared to the other two so comparing it with the others in a different size is not fair.

The missing numbers were not available in the tire erack review I took them from. I saw the larger tire size. Again, I was limited to the tests done by Tirerack.
