Default Need advice on Wheels and modifications needed

Alright guys, I have read through the sticky and it is great information, but I could spend weeks figuring out all the information. This won't do me much good if I then have to spend weeks looking at wheels. I trust your experience and ask for a push in the direction I need to go.

I have a s/c s2000. I pretty much only drive the car on the auto-x or track. I recently moved my car into a square setup with 265/40-17. I am on stock wheels, because I was trying to wait for the 6ULRs. They are not coming out now until whenever. I would like to run a 9 inch wheel up front and continue with a 265 and then possibly run a 275-285 on the rear with a 10" wheel.

I am currently at stock ride height but will be purchasing a suspension at some point and run a drop either at stock or maybe 1" lower than stock.

With the 265 it rubs under full compression barely. I am open to rolling my fenders or anything else I need to do to make it right.

So the advice I'm looking for is wheels that are available in appropriate sizes to allow for 9" 265 up front and 10" 265+ in the rear. Also what I need to do to allow for them to fit. I would prefer not to run any wide body kit if possible.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi, can we get a little bit more information:

1) What tires are you running now?

2) What is your budget for wheels/tire? (Do you need new tires, or would you take them off your current wheels)

3) Are you running a non-staggered setup with the stock wheels? Or are you running a 265 tire on the 7" front wheel now?

The biggest question is, are you planning to add a BBK? If so, that will limit your options quite a bit.

I will assume you aren't though for now...

The next biggest question is, what is your budget?

You have a few options as far as I see it:

1. Custom wheels from CCW or the likes.
2. Volks. CE28 in a proper offset should work great.
3. TSW Nurburgring or Interlagos in 17x9 +63. Best part of these is that they are BBK friendly. They aren't nearly as good looking or lightweight as the more expensive options though... but they are MUCH cheaper (~$200/wheel vs ~$650+/wheel). Might need a 2-3mm spacer to clear full lock rubbing.
4. Enkei RPF1 in 17x9 +45 (will require rolling fenders and possibly a little more) or PF01 in 17x9 +60. PF01s with +60 offset might need a 2-3mm spacer to clear full lock rubbing, they are available with lower offset though.

Thanks for your help so far. Here are the answers as best as I can provide them:

I am currently running 265/40-17 tires on the stock wheels. The fronts are obviously pinched which is why I am trying to get the proper wheels. I did this so that I could just swap them onto the 6ULRs but unfortunately that is no longer an option. The tires are the Dunlop Star Specs.

I am not really on any kind of budget, obviously money is not free, so I want a wheel that is functional and fits the car properly. If I have to pay more to get that then I will make it happen.

Thanks. I don't want to be that person. When people come into the Forced Induction thread, I have to read through so many threads about ebay turbos I wouldn't want to do the same to the guys who spend all their time researching wheels and tires. I think we all have different resources and we are all here to share them so that one person doesn't need to be an expert on every thing.

I don't plan on running a BBK since I have yet to see any that actually improve braking. I am not trying to start a debate.

I appreciate all your comments and will look at them. I would prefer not to run spacers if possible. I don't mind paying the higher price if it is what I need to do to get the proper offsets. I honestly believe taking the cheap route always costs you more in the end. I of course will be tracking the wheels, so I want something that adds as little weight as possible and don't really need anything flashy.

I also think I would like to stay away from RPF1...never really liked those wheels. I know they are popular, just not my thing.

So I looked at CCW, and it appears that only the 3 piece wheels come in 17" wheel diameter. How does the weight of the 3 piece compare with the forged. In my limited experience, I was informed that forged wheels are lighter.

I like the CE28. I found some at vivid racing for 800+ a piece. This seems a bit high, but I am still looking. I will look at the other brands as well.

SSR makes the type c rs (I believe type f too) in 17x9.5 +65. I am running these on the rear with 265/40 star specs. I never tried to fit them on the front to see if they clear. Figured I'd throw that out there. People tend to skip over SSR when looking for high offset, lightweight wheels.
