Need new tires and recomendations
I just need something for under $500, for the set of four. Wet performance isn't what I'm too concerned over, just something to keep in mind. I do plan and continuing to slow the **** down when it rains, how ever I don't live in Seattle anymore, so rain isn't a daily reality, and only snows 2/3 times a year, during which I plan on NOT driving my car.

BFGoodrich G-Force Sport. About $122 per tire - 145/40/17. Very good tires for the money. Picked these over S-02 and S-03 because of pricing.
Dang, thats a skinny tire!
I think I'm going to go ahead and get the RT-615s. I found them for just about $500.
If they start wearing before the end of the summer I'll pick up some winter tires. I really want to pick up another set of wheels and put semi-slicks on them, and then keep something street-able on my other tires.

The AP1 has some challenging dynamics, the 615 is a great tire, but when it goes, it GOES. Not a great combo for someone who is not focussed all the time. No sweat if you are.
I had a buddy go right off the road on Sunday with these on very lightly wet roads (still treaded) and he AXs all the time. Just FYI.

Yeah...the Sumitomo HTR Z III is newer than 14 months ago. Your friend probably had the old HTR Z II, which was not so good.
TireRack tests show the new HTR Z III to out perform the RE050PP in the dry and wet.

At about $100/tire, I'm gonna give them a try after my RE01Rs are done (which looks like will be very soon based on how rapidly the tread is going...even faster than the 615s).
And for FI guys, the Sumitomos come in a 275 too!

looking for tires right now too as well (and a bit longer tread wear).
have done well on the Avon MT500s but they wanna try something d'frent.
2 probs i have w/ the 615s:
1. 255/40s weight 27.5 lbs
2. can't flip 'em inside out to offset rear neg camber wear.
both Kumho MX and Toyo T1R weigh ~23 lbs. that's a total of 9 lb unsprung weight if you run the 615s.
i'm undecided on Toyo T1R/ Hancook RS2 / Kumho MX, all are at about $155/ea installed w/ T1R having superior life...
