Default Need tire help, on a budget

Sorry for posting another one of these topics guys, but I want to get some more feedback from you guys. I have a 05 AP2, and have very worn out Michelin pilot sports A/S. For some reason, the front is 225/45 and the rear is stock size, 245/40. I'll be changing to all stock sizes. Anyway, I need new tires and I just daily drive my car for the most part but I do go on spirited drives and do push the car when I can, thinking of autox sooner or later in the future. I've been doing a lot of searching and since I'm on a budget, I was thinking of going with the Hankook V12's (yes I know posts about these are everywhere!) because I heard many good things about them and they are in my budget. However, some people complain that the sidewall is too stiff? I dont know a great deal about tires, but I don't want tires that are too stiff. I've looked into star specs and RS3's but they are slightly over my budget.

About a week ago, a friend of mine wanted to put on a set of tires on the rear for my car to test out and they were some sort of Federal tires, stock size and when I drove it, the car felt very bouncy, very wobbly, especially the back and the steering just felt so loose. Felt like the rear was gonna give out. I dont know whether its cause the tires weren't broken in, or what, but I heard that this kind of driving feeling is due to single ply walls? If anyone could give some info on that, that'd be great because I really don't want to feel that again with a new set of tires if I can help it.

At the moment, I can only spend about $130 MAX, preferably a bit less if possible, per tire. I would like tires that grip very well. So with this limit, what do you guys recommend? All input is greatly appreciated!

If you are on a budget there is nothing wrong with Federal tires. Look at Hankook too. They are a quiet tire. RS3 or V12.

Federal 595ss are decent and what I am currently running. I have had the v12's and liked them as well.

Thanks for all the input guys. What's the best out of the three: Hankook V12, BFG Comp 2, or the Sumitomo HTRZ III? ALso, what do you guys think about the Falken FK452? Any other suggestions?

The 452 are pretty good. They handle well. Id probably take those out of any of the others suggested except for the 595's. v12 hankooks handle like ass. Least fav out of the bunch for our car.

Really? So many people say the V12's handle well, and most seem to like them better than the 452, with better ratings. The federals are really cheap, and they're better than the rest? I'm looking at the Comp-2's and looks promising.

V12 are squirmy and unpredictable and unsafe in transitions/maneuvering, they are a budget tire first and foremost which has good dry traction for the category but thin sidewalls. Traction and handling aren't the same thing and I think those that are shopping for a budget tire don't know the difference, many of them are first time s2k owners who never experienced what the car or original Bridgtones offered and have come from some other car that is generally sloppy in handling anyway, or just don't care about handling, they care about parking and cheap replacements for camber wear. The federals and 452 are the two Ive run in the past which actually have better sport handling characteristics, better then v12, however the 595 are probably the most well balanced for handling and traction in dry and wet for a budget tire.
