Better handling on the track? 225/50-16 front, 245/45-16 rear.

On the street, 205/55-16 fronts, 225/50-16 rears of serious Extreme Performance or Max Performance tires will give you seriously kick-ass handling. Which is good because there aren't any bigger sizes available for street tires (none that are decent, anyway).

StarSpecs or RS-3s are going to give you stellar handling in the stock AP1 sizes.
You could run 225 all around if you can deal...

Tire selection = way more important than size.

245/45-16 size is only available for dedicated track tires! For a DD, you're going to be going with 225/50-16s.

If you go with a 245/45-16 STREET tire, I guarantee you will have reduced grip and performance vs. 225/50-16 Dunlop StarSpecs or Hankook RS-3s.

Can you put 225/50-16 front, 245/45-16 rear on the stock rims? It seems like the tire would be a lot wider than the rim.

yeah, the stock AP1 wheels are pretty narrow. you can fit wider tires but they will bulge out past the edge of the wheels. not the greatest for performance not to mention it looks a bit funny.

225/50-16 fronts with 245/45-16 rears does look funny. Fronts bulge out more and are taller, making them look much beefier than the rears. More ultimate dry grip, though.

As for performance, bulging tires might not be ideal, but in stock classes where you have to run stock wheel widths, 245 Hoosiers all around has been the hot ticket for AP1s. 245/45-16 on 6.5" wide front wheels bulge a LOT! Still give more grip.

seems like a bit of a performance trade off with a wider tire on a narrow wheel. more rubber on the road but more sidewall deflection too. but perhaps all things considered you end up with more grip overall...
