Default noob offset question?

I have looked over the chart and I am having a hard time understanding the system. Example: how can a 7 inch wheel need the same offset as a 8 inch wheel to fit safely? Even if they have the same size tire wouldn't the "7" give you more clearence.

My question is in regards to wheels like the RG 2 or XT-7 would a 17x7.5 +45 or 17x7 +47 fit with a 215 tire on a stock set up or with a lowered suspension?? Judging by the chart "no" but I think many here run these sets with out rolling or neg camber??

Thanks for the help
John

the chart is basically for "safe" fitment. im currently running 8+45, 215/45 in the front with no rubbing.

Thanks for the help. Another wheel I have been looking at is a Forged Weds wheel
17x8 +49 17x9 +49. I would be safe with a 215/245?
