Default One size up?

Hi,

picking up the tires for stock 17" rims... Want to go one size up. I mean use 215/50/17 on the front and 245/45/17 on the rear (instead of stock size 215/45/17 & 245/40/17). Is this OK to do? Did not find much with search (

Thanks!

Anton

You could do 225/45, 255/40.

Any particular reason why you want taller tires?

Yes, I want the car a bit higher it's now. 4-5 mm is not enough, 10 mm is OK. I have spacers now (between shocks and body) but car drives crappy with them and I want to remove them and make car higher using more "meaty" rubber. Is it doable w/o much of handling lost?

Well...first of all "meatier" usually means wider. By my calculations what you propose would increase the diameter of your fronts by 21.5mm and your rears by 24.5mm.

You have the added worry of VSA as well as ABS. I don't know if that's enough to cause a problem or not. I'd call Jim at Tire Rack.

Yes, I'm waiting for Jim's feedback here.

if you look at all his other posts he will suggest not getting tires that large in diameter... It will throw your speedo/odometer off for one thing... Also why do you need the car higher? Do you have the stock suspension on and need it higher than that?
