Optimal size for staggered wheel/tire combo

Hi guys,

I need help to find the optimal size for staggered wheel and tire combo. S2000 is lowered by about an inche. I want no rubbing or having to do any fender modifications. Also, I want my wheels and tires to look flushed with the car's fenders. What is the best setting for wheel size and tires size to have the best/most tire traction? 17s vs 18s? size?

Maybe below is the optimal performance setting?

Front: 17x8.5 +58 offset with 225/45/17 ??
Rear: 17x10 +65 offset with 275/40/17 ??

Thanks for the help!

John

ill be the first to tell you to search as what your asking has definitely been answered a million times.

to answer your exact bolded question for most traction hoosier a6's in the widest you can fit under therem which would probably be 255's to not have any rubbing or flaring but thats the smart arse answer....

To be slightly more helpful the most common setup is

front 17 x 8 et 48 with 225 or 235 45/17
rear 17 x 9 et 63 with 255/40/17

or in 18

front 18x 8 or with 225 or 235/ 40/18
rear 18 x 9 et 63 with 255/35/18

18s more for looks if you like the big wheels profile, 17's better comfort

imo 275's are over kill for a daily S that's either not fi or doesnt see track duty.
You'll just spend more for wider wheels and tires. I think you'll need to flare your rears for 275's but dont quote me.

Thanks Js S2k!

I did some research and found that the common optimal setup is:

17x8 +52 offset (I read that the +48 may rub on 225/45/17)
17x9 +63 offset

As for tires for the above wheels setup:
225/45/17
265/40/17

Anyhow, i just want to see if anyone has a more aggressive setup for a 1 inch lowered s2000 and for no rub or fender roll.

btw, the S2000 is turbocharged, doing around ~300hp.

Which wheels come with that size and offsets?
I'm currently shopping for the same thing.
I see that volks and work wheels are good but too expansive.
any suggestions?

Street tires or track tires?

Agree w/ Js S2k above on everything except aspect ratio for 235s.
You'd want 235/40-17 or 235/35-18.

As for "optimum", generally wider is going to be better, but make/model/compound of tire is vastly more important.

Even within the same make/model/compound of tire, you're not going to see a huge difference in grip between, say, a 245/40-17 and a 255/40-17.

Basically, don't get TOO too hung up on getting the "optimum" tire size, it's not going to make a meaningful difference unless you are in competition and tenths or hundredths of a second really really matter.

Tire Rack has TRMotorsports C3 wheels in 17x9 +62 for $159 each. Not superlight, but not heavy either at 19 lb. That's what I'd do for wheels unless you think you *need* tires wider than 275...
