performance of OEM wheels,tires 04-->03
I have a model year 2003 S2000 with OEM wheels and tires. Because I like the look of the 2004 S2000 wheels - I am considering buying some. It is a good time as I am about done with my current set of tires.
If I switch over to 2004 OEM wheels and tires, what kind of differences in driving will I experience? If any. e.g. will the car be faster or slower?
Will this be the same case for 2005,2006 assuming OEM is the same between and including yrs. 04-06?
In any case, will I my speed indicator be off?
I have like the S02's. Do the 04-06 come with these?
Thanks

OMG I have no idea what you are talking about, I wish I could help.
Are you talking about model years?

Sorry to put you thru that - I have made it more clear I believe.

SO4 oem TO MY SO3
MY 04 OEM to MY 03
or
AP2 OEM rims/tire onto an AP1 car.
You are using the wrong terminology, thereby confusing the heck out of some people.
The OEM '04 rims with OEM Bridgestone RE 050 tires are almost comparable to the previous generation. This modification has been done many times already. '04 rims on AP1 cars, however, most people get different tires than the OEM ones.
The front to rear tread width ratio on the pre-MY04 OEM S02 tires is 0.835 on the MY04 with the OEM RE050's the ratio is 0.74. Thus, you will introduce a little understeer relative to the S02's.
The diameter of the rear tires is the same. Your speedometer will not be affected.
I believe, but am not certain, that the '05 and '06 tires are the same as '04.

so, is the time it takes to go from 0-60 mph the same and the gas mileage as well? I believe I can assume it is a little tighter in twistees because the wall is smaller.
Forgive me but I have tried to get a direct answer but my searches have not been smart enough I guess - I know this must have already been answered many times.
The 0-60 time and mileage will be affected by the weight of the wheel and tire. I think the MY04 wheel/tire weight is a little greater than the pre-04, but probably not enough to make much of a difference.
As far as performance of a tire is concerned, it has to do with contact patch (tread width), tread pattern, wall stiffness wheel width and tire compound, so a direct comparison is difficult without knowing all those factors. In general a shorter side wall would be stiffer.
All that said, many people prefer 16" wheels for autoX.

The AP2 wheel/tire combo feels a LOT heavier than my AP1 combo (although I have RA-1s on my AP1 wheels which may be lighter than the OEM S02).
You can expect your speedodemter to remain correct but you will lose a little acceleration and braking (I can feel the difference). It really is a matter of looks rather than performance. All things being equal, I prefer the performance of the S02s to the 0500s but I like the look of the larger AP2 wheels.
