Default RE-71RS patched tire - Safe to use?

Hi all, got a nail in one of my RE-71RS. Looking for opinions/ advice on drivability and proper replacement practice.

Context:
I'm currently running 245/40/17 squared on my DD, recently noticed my rear passenger tire was leaking air slowly so whenever I drove it (no more than 2x) I'd pump it to 34-36 psi and it seemed to hold the air long enough for me to get to where I needed to be.
A couple of days later, I jacked up the car and saw the leak was coming from a nail in the middle of the tread, got it patched and the tech showed me where the nail dug into the tire well and started eating at the cords (at the corners of the side wall).

Is it still ok to run this tire temporarily until I get a replacement? Approx (1-2 weeks) driving the car every other day.
Also, when I do order replacements, should I order 2 tires to replace the whole rear or should 1 suffice? Currently have 5k miles all around on my setup.

The area in question. Nail rubbed against this part, but I was still able to run my finger across it smoothly.

This wouldn't be considered safe, and yes you should get two tires.

Assuming this is professionally repaired with a "plug patch" it's fine especially for a Daily Driver. Reputable tire shop (like Discount Tire, a subsidiary of Tire Rack) will not repair if it would be unsafe.

It's in the middle. I've run patched tires on the track. Ran one for 8 track events after I got it patched. It got a nail in it after the first track day.

What am i looking at in this picture? Red circle is the patch.

What's the blue line? #1 A circumferential rain groove or #2the start of the sidewall?

If blue line is #2, then agree, replace in 2 pairs. If a circumferential groove (#1), I say drive on it. Would be nice to get a picture from the outside face of the tire and with whole width to see where the patch is with respect to the tread - as earlier stated.

Replace. 2x. gonna answer my own question. I'm assuming this is sidewall patch too.

which I missed in the original picture that I circled.

Nail entered center tread line, but was super long and damaged sidewall. So, yes, replace if for track use. Auto-x, you could risk it, lower speeds, most likely less catastrophic consequences if blow out occurs.

You don't need a new tire if they can just patch it properly. Any reputable tire shop can do the job and its a permanent fix.

Edit...it looks like your sidewall was damaged? In that case, you likely need a new tire. The shop will tell you whether its OK to drive or whether you should install the spare.
