Hi all, just picked up a very nice 2002 AP1, only 21k miles. The prior owner was an actual little old lady so I think it’s lived a fairly quiet life. Clean Carfax and she had some receipts but not all. It looks like she bought two new tires in 2008 (one shows 2008 and the other 2006 date of manufacture), and the others might be original? Just on age alone should I replace? The tires on there all match and are Yokohama Avid V4s

Wheels are in in great shape so I’ll be sticking with stock sizes for the time being.

Thoughts?

Yes I would DEFINITELY replace those. In general tires after 5 years should be replaced regardless of wear due to the material breaking down. Its just not safe.

 

These are the top three rules for tires that old:

1. Replace
2. Replace!
3. Replace!!!!!!!!!!

No joke, replace those tires asap. Exponentially unsafe...

Any recs for the best current AP1 wheel all around tire? I’ve searched and it seems like some of the former recommendations are no longer readily available.

 

May be a good time to upgrade to a 17" wheel, there are more tires to pick from in that size.
