Rim width question

Are there any differences in handling characteristics if you have a 235 on the front with a 8" rim vs a 9" rim?

I have been wondering this too. I would assume the more you stretch the tire might deflect more during hard cornering but I'm basing that information off nothing. Just an educated assumption.
