Default Serious curbage on rims - should i fix it myself?

I backed into curb that had a steel lip on the edge and now i got a GASH on my rim about 1/3" deep. looks like a chunk came out.

I've been looking at DIY wheel repair with bondo and it seems like a good idea, but its really only done on curb rash looking damages, nothing with a chunk missing like mine.

Advice?

I don't think I'd try to do repair myself, especially if you've got expensive aftermarket wheels. some shops specialize in repairing curb rashes. I'd goggle locally and see if you can find one. They'd probably do a bette job and match paint. I know if I tried bondo it would look bad.

Need pics. Depends on the wheel too, structural issues aside I'd be concerned about the aesthetics of a Volks wheel a hell of a lot more than a Sport Max wheel.

^Not an easy DIY, it's both painted and machine finished with a clear coat IIRC. Get a pro to do it and it can look like new.

Problem with bondo is that as soon as you hit a nice pothole, it will crack. Bondo isn't made to take that kind of abuse.
