Siping tires on the s2000

Is siping a good thing to do on the rear tires for an s2000.

The tire resellers talk of it as though it's the best thing since sliced bread - smoother quieter ride, more traction, less tire wear etc etc.

Is there a down side to this - or is a magical thing that people just didn't know about like santa claus and pixies?

Absolutely do not sipe your tires. You would be ruining the integrity of the tread blocks. I also would tend to trust a tire manufacturer more to design a tire correctly than a guy at a local tire store that is not an engineer. Tire manufacturers spend millions of dollars to design and make tires.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you

Thanks Jim - exactly what I was suspecting.

The claims were just too bizzare - and anything that breaks down the structure of the existing rubber just has to reduce wearability in my mind, S02's certainly don't need any extra help in that dept.

I actually could do with some advice on a slighty cheaper Tire than the SO2 to put on the rear, my front So2's are fine but the back tires need changing and $155 a piece for Bridgestones seems rich compared to $90 for Yokohama AVS (think that's right). Can you recommend anything???

There are other good tires out there but the problem is mixing tires can be a problem. You never can tell how th ecar is going to react with different tires.
That said I have sold the Kumho's for the rear of the car without any problems that I have heard of. The Kumho would not be nearly as good in the dry as the S02 but they are good riding with excellent wet traction and better tread life.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you
