Staggered tires
I am running 18 inch wheels with 225/40/18 tires on all four wheels on my 2005.
I would like wider tires on the rear. I was looking at 255/35/18 for the rear The diameter of the 225's is 25.1, the diameter of the 255's is 25.0 The rims are 18x8.5 Will this work. Thank you for your help and input |
That could work depending on the offset of the wheels, but I'd not want 255 on a 8.5" wheel.
|
Thank you, Another option would be to replace the rear wheels with 18/9 inch.
What about 245/35/18 tires instead of the 255/35/18 the diameter of the 245's being 24.8 with the 225's at 25.1 would that work |
What is the offset of the current wheels? Generally 255 is fine on a 8.5, though not optimum, but in your case if it can fit your fender due to a favorable offset I think id prefer that over a 245 being on big 18's and having a closer overall diameter match to front 225. Being 18's, the smaller sidewall will not be as detrimental to handling precision with a 255 on a narrower wheel either. With 17's its a little more of a consideration. CR comes this way from factory though keep in mind. 8.5 would be the minimum for 255. 10" The max/best.

255 on a 8.5" is fine. It is a very common tire size on factory ap2 rear wheels, which are 8.5". Determining if the wheel and tire combo fit on the vehicle is dependent on the offset and if your fenders are rolled, or you plan to roll them. Stock fenders would require a size around 8.5+58 or higher to fit a 255. Rolling/pulling will expand those options.

255mm tires are fine and are standard on the CR with 8.5" wide wheels. And many of us (including me) are running them as well on OEM wheels.

Thank you for your update and comments. I will determine what my offset is first and confirm the fit first.

Wheels
I have SPYN wheels it says on the side that they are 18x7.5JJ. However when I measure them they measure 8.5 with a negative offset of -6.25 and a +2.25 that adds up to 8.5inches.
Anyone else using these wheels? https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...75e2ce1b16.jpg |
The size and offset should be part of the casting on the inside on one or more spokes. At least on the Enkei wheels (OEM S2000 wheels are Enkei). Is something there? Same or different? Yeah, ya gotta pull a the wheel. :)

-- Chuck The exception would be if these are not actually multi piece wheels but made to look like them. |
Where are you measuring? A 7.5" wheel is actually 8.5" wide if you're going from 'rim' to 'rim.'

Wheels
I am measuring the wheel width from lip to lip

Wheels
I am going to take the wheel to the tire shop and have them measure the width with their tool
as for the offset it is measured from the inside lip to the mounting face which i measure to be 158mm |
wheels
ok now I have the wheels measured and they are 7.5 and not 8.5 inches.
I will look for a replacement wheel that is 9 inches in order to fit 255/35/18 tires |
offset
Now this offset business is getting complicated. In my previous post I indicated that I had a negative 158mm offset.
This is obviously not correct. So I have a 7.5 inch wheel and in order to find the offset I measure from the face of the backing plate (mounting surface) to the centre of the wheel. It looks like I will need to purchase new wheels in order to mount 255/35/18 tires on the rear. The bolt pattern I believe is 5x122mm. Can someone who has used this combination please give me the correct offset that I need in order to make this work. I don't want to have to roll the fenders. |
Dude WHAT.
All of your math is way off. If the wheels were previously on your S2000 they are 5x114.3 Your offset is absolutely not -158. It is most likely around 40. I would throw those wheels on craigslist. Go buy wheels that are the right size for our cars. 7.5 all around is a bad choice. 17" will ride more nicely & look less skateboardy (some S2000 pull it off, not many). |
Offset
Ok I understand that I can't mix the wheel size between the front and the rear. I am looking at replacing my 18 inch wheels with 17's. I need to know if this combination will work. 225/45/17 up front and 255/40/17 on the rear.
I don't want to roll my fenders. If this works, assuming I use 8 inch wheels up front and 9 inch on the rear what offset do I need? I am looking for something black that would be similar to the picture below. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...2ba86427f8.jpg |
Look up Enkei PF01 if you don't want to roll your fenders. Pretty sure they come in black.
17/8 +50F 17/9 +60R |
Lol -158mm offset. No no. Thats no where near right.
Everything I see about those wheels is like 10+ years old. Their website doesn't work and from some very old looking images I would guess the wheels as 18x7.5 +45. You are on the right track getting rid of them and putting on some wheels closer to OEM AP2 spec like Junky posted. The PF01 are a great choice. TSW has a few options with similar high offsets as well. |
Wheels
Yes I am having a difficult time locating some 17 X & for the front and some 17 X 9 for the rear. every wheel I like has the 7 but not the 9 or vice versa.
Not having fun with this |

Not having fun with this But again take a look at the wheels I offered up for good 225/255 fitment without needed to mod fenders, unless you don't like the way they look. |
Reproduction AP2V1 (first gen 17") wheels are available. In EO sizes, front and back, there are no fitment issues. Once painted

Here is a great place to start looking at wheels for the S2K. Best of luck. I have used the TRM C3 17x9 +63 wheels on my S2K 255-40-17 tires also with no rubbing issues or fender rolling required. |
