Default Thinking about going with SSR Type-C's

So i bought a 2004 S2000 a few years ago and it has been my summer DD. I bought it completely stock from the original owner with 32k on it. Since then i have cleaned it up removed the soft top assembly and added a hardtop. Threw on a custom intake some headers a 70mm test pipe and a 3" single exhaust. My "big" mod for this summer will be wheels, tires and some nice brake pads. This will also be my first summer taking it to the track. I know these cars are awesome on the track and you really don't need much maybe some better pads especially for a beginner like me. I do not want to tamper with the suspension at this time as i want to learn how it handles first. So i think wheels and tires depending one size shouldn't throw off the stock handling all that much.

I plan to go with SSR Type C's because they are a lighter wheel and they look pretty good too.

For sizes i was going to buy... 17x7.5+49 F and 17x8.5+58 R Hopefully I can find them used as $1800 new is a little steep for my budget.
Why? well because these are very close to stock specs (ik the front is .50" wider) meaning i shouldn't have to do any fender modding.. i don't think

The one thing i am not to sure about is what tire sizes i should run on these? I would like them to be a little beefier than stock for some more grip (and i like the look)

Stock...
17x7.0+55 215/45 F
17x8.5+65 245/40 R

What i was thinking...
17x7.5+49 225/45 F
17x8.5+58 255/40 R

Or maybe
17x8.5+58 225/45 or 235/45 F (Inner clearance 22mm less / Outer clearance 16mm less) My fenders still okay? for track use....
17x8.5+58 255/40 R
This way i could run non stag in the future if i decided to go that route... save some rubber with rotating

So yea before i drop some hard earned money i would like to hear a few of your opinions.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

I had 17's and now currently have 18's. 18x8 +48 offset front....16.3 lbs and rear 18x9 +55 offset 17.0 lbs. Get them ASAP.... Lighter then Ap1's with 225-40-18 and 255-35 tires. I would go with the 17x9 +55 offset in the rear and either a 17x7.5 or 17x8 in the front, + 48 offset. I can locate u a set doing a nationwide search on Craigslist.

I have had the ssr type c rs for about four years now and still love them. They are light weight, attractive and the anthracite color goes well with any color car. I just recently bought two new wheels to change my setup. I used to run 17x8+48 and 17x9 +55, but I now run the 17x9 +55 in the front and 17x9.5 +65 in the rear. Since the 17x9 +55 are discontinued I would recommend either getting the 17x8.5 +58 front and 17x9.5 +65 rear or do a non staggered setup with the 17x8.5 +58. You could run a 245/40 setup (or a 255/40) and an eibach front sway bar.

Where are you getting quoted for 1600 for a new set? I just ordered the two 17x9.5s and they ran me about 1100 when all was said and done. The craiglist ones are not too shabby. The three that are 17x8.5 +48 seem like a decent buy, but the +41 is not to friendly. Those would require some work to get to fit.

Newya,
Thanks for the searches i cant believe how cheap they are going for... I haven't dealt with craigslist much doesn't feel as safe as s2ki but for those prices... Wouldn't i have to roll my front fenders for the 8.5+48?

dc2,
I stated $1800 and that was for the 7.5 and 8.5 at evasive... not including the shipping.

I will do a national search on craigslist and see what i can turn up on the type c's..

I might end up falling back on the rpf1's even though id have to roll my fenders... the 17x9's are 16lbs and pretty damn cheap. Finding a pair of them would be very easy as well.

Ugh i hate finding wheels for this car

Go with the Type-C's....U can find them cheaper and they are lighter in weight. Long as u use Paypal, u should be ok. S~Factor in the N.Y. Metro section was also selling his set of Type C's..

^Thanks man.

I've been going back and forth whether to even sell these or not. If they sell, they sell. If not, I'd love to keep them.

My thread.

4. SSR Competition Type-C wheels (no center caps)
17x8 +48 with Sumitomo HTR ZIII 235/45
17x9 +55 with Sumitomo HTR ZIII 275/40 (<-- with 275 tires, they are still lighter than stock)

These are light weight wheels at 15-16 lbs each. Tires have at least 40% Rear/60% Front. Selling for $900 plus your AP2 OEM wheels/tires in fair condition. Local trade only (zip 07747). Or sell outright for $1400.

S~Factor's deal sounds like a good one. Plus he is in N.J./N.Y. area. The Competitions are also slightly lighter also. Not to mention the rears are concave.
