Default Tire choice

Well I have been looking for new tires for the last week and I really just feel like I am shooting blind. I don't post alot on S2ki (mostly just read alot) so I figured this would be a good chance.

Here are my requirements
Must be available in
-255-40-17
-235-40-17
Last 15k or maybe longer
cost $150ish

Whats the grippiest tire I can get meeting those specs in your experience.
Here are some that I have considered (and maybe they dont meet some of my requirements there are so many conflicting reviews)
Azenis RT615k (too expensive)
BFG KDW2 (too loud?)
Kumho Ecsta MX (don't think they offer them in the size I need)
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec

I am just getting more and more confused so throw your opinion out there if you want.

Tire Rack Extreme and Max Perf tires in your desired sizes
(B'stone RE-11, Dunlop StarSpec, Yok AD08)
These won't last 15k miles, though...

UHP Summer tires

Looks like KDW-2 or Yok S.Drives are likely your best bets for performance w/ 15k mile longevity.

I am thinking about trying the Dunlop starspec and just see how long they last. Seems like a good tire with semi decent treadwear

If 8000 miles for the rears is semi-decent, yeah...

I love the StarSpecs, (been through 2.5 sets) but I just replaced mine with Dunlop SportMaxx TT's. I do track the car on the street tires, but having some hydroplaning resistance particularly towards the end of their lives (and a bit more life as well) outweighed maximum dry grip for me this time. After slithering around in the wet at Mont Tremblant on StarSpecs with ~4/32 tread depth left...

Actually, it looks like Continental ContiSportContact 3 might be another option for you http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresult...eter=17&type=MP , though it doesn't show up in a tire size search on Tire Rack. Weird...

While in Theory, this is supposed to be the way you can tell, it's been so abused in recent years that the industry is looking at going away from it.

Do you really think that a 200 treadwear RT-615k lasts longer than an oem RE050 w/ a 140 rating? Didn't think so.

Look at the Continental ExtremeContact DW. Getting great reviews from TireRack. And newer technology than the S.Drives. Haven't had the chance to compare them back to back yet.

Under full disclosure, I work for Continental.

man the oem sucks big time...tread wear 120-140 i believe. replaced it with some tires that had treadwear of 420. drove it for half a year and still looks new. ride it daily with camber.
