Tire fitment question
 

I see there is a wheel fitment guide, but I didn’t see a tire fitment guide. If there is a specific post or thread I should look to, please let me know.

For my AP1, I am getting SW388s in 17"8.5J +55 for the front, and 17"9.5J +60 for the rear. The car has Eibach pro kit springs that I bought back in 2004, with some AP2 oem shocks (that need replacing already). I’m planning to upgrade to the Ohlins DFV coil overs soon, along with hardrace or spoon complete bushing kit (that’s a topic for another day) as part of a refresher.

I’ve been daily driving the car since 2008 without any modifications, just maintenance and relatively minor suspension work on oem wheels this whole time.

What range of tire sizes am I looking at here, and does anyone have any recommendations to share?

225/45/17 front
255/40/17 rear

Lots of options.

"CR spec" tires are
215/45/17 front
255/40/17 rear and have worked well on my stock suspension AP2V2 (MY 2006) wheels for several years.

Likewise standard AP2 tire sizes
215/45/17 front
245/40/17 rear will work well too.

These tire sizes are all within a tiny percent of the sizes of all the OEM (AP1 or AP2) tires so won't upset ABS or Stability Assist in the late cars.

Not all tire brand/models offer the 255/40/17 size but they look great!

It's mainly for stock sizes, too many variables to have a sticky for non standard sizes/offsets.

May want to read what the OP actually posted about his wheel specs before simply responding with standard tire sizes. Front wheel width of 8.5" isn't going to do well with a 215 tire, same for a 245 on a 9.5" rear.

I run a 215 on my 9” front, 245 on my 10” rear, and 225 on my 9.5” square set.

Not advising others to do the same, but I would not run a bigger tire on the car/wheels again. 255 on 9” square just looks goofy (to me), with no perceptible benefits on road.

Then use the 225/255. Fun fact, a slight ‘stretch’ is faster than a super square sidewall.

Not everyone likes stretched tires.

OP...225 and 255 are the most straightforward. Both will look exactly as stretched on the front and rear. For 8.5 and 9.5, those are probably optimal, with exactly the amount of stretch you want for aesthetic (IMO) and functional reasons.

Speaking to the choir here, but a slight stretch is beneficial to performance however excessive stretch takes away compliance. Also degree of stretch will depend on the tire you're mounting. RT660, A052 and CRS are dummy wide and essentially run one size wider than listed. These tires in 255 look barely stretched on a 10.

I'd stick with 225/255 stagger with that wheel setup.
