Tires

what is the main difference between "max performance summer" vs. "all season tires" in general.

If you live in south florida is there really a difference between the two. I was going to buy

continental tires for my 2005 S2000. Summer in florida really means a lot more rain .

thanks for any info .....

"Rain" is not a SEASON. Good Max Perf Summer tires that have a decent void ratio are what you want for good rain performance. Check Tire Rack tests and customer survey results to be sure you don't get tires with poor wet grip or hydroplaning resistance.

It is in FLORIDA.

OP:
Conti DW are perfect in the rain, I DD through all the storms in SFL with them. Michelin Pilot Super Sport is supposed to be the fastest tire wet or dry.

Not when it comes to tires... in florida there is no reason to NOT go with summer tires except for longevity (all season last longer). I live in florida, I DD'd on my Hankook RS-3's but they wore out too fast on the abrasive pavement we have, and although they are GREAT in the dry and on wet pavement, they hydroplane easily in the standing water of a sudden florida thunderstorm. I still have them for autox though, great tires!

I now DD on Continental DW... I am convinced that they are the best DD tire for florida, their dry grip is close to the RS-3's (before the RS-3's warm up) and they are miracle tires in the rain. I have amazing grip in the rain, I can go full throttle in standing water and the car stays planted, plus they are quiet and have a non-harsh ride. The only downside is that they are a little squishy in the side wall, so they are not quite as razor sharp as some other tires.

My father has Bridgestone RE760's on his BMW 530i he is thrilled with them and I have driven on them and like them too, another great option.
