Tires for Street Tire Autocross
I posted this on the racing forum also, so I am looking for any S2000 pilots or tire experts with experience or opinons. I will be autocrossing my 2003 S2000 in SCCA's stock street tire class next year. I've done a lot of research. Tire choice is a dilema:
Falken Azenas are the king of street tire autox, but they are n/a in the correct sizes.
According to my research, the Kumho Ecsta MX and BFG T/A KD's are the next best choices, but they are NOT available in the optimal rear tire size 245/45-16, however they are available in the stock size 225/50-16 (and front 205/55-16). As previously discussed on this board, our stock rear S02's actual measure closer to 245's, so I would be losing some tread width, and would require a front anti-rollbar to maintain handling balance.
The question is, am I better off with a narrower rear tread (225/50) with a stickier tire (like the MX or KD), or a wider tread (245/45) with a less optimal autox tire (like a S03, or Mich Pilot Sport or Yoko AVS).
I am also assuming that it is optimal to have a front bar and a wider front tire (225/50-16), if you have 245/45's on the rear. I would have to use 205 fronts if I go with the MX or KD's.
Has anybody autocrossed the KD's or MX's? Are they worth the sacrifice in tire width?
Thanks.

As far as I know the SO-2 is the best 16" tire for the S2000.
IMO the Azenis is miles ahead of the SO-2 but sizes are not compatible in 16" so stick to the Bridgestone.
SO-3's are not as good either.
Falken is starting a new line of Azenis but I'm not sure if they will have proper sizing for the S2000.
