Default Titanium Lug Nuts

Hello guys,

Wishing all fellow S2K owners a great 2022 with many mods.

I'm thinking on getting a set of Vaikhari Titanium LugNuts for the S2000. Atm using Volk CE28N Wheels 17 with Rays nuts. However they are very aged and need a change.

Lets not speak about the price. Only the most important.

Quality, Safety, Weight and aging. Will they last as long as my Rays Dura Lugnuts? Is titanium the best option for lugnuts?

I kind of think they are a waste of money unless going for a 100% competition build and you have literally performed all other weight reduction possible on the car. Even then we are not talking much weight reduction overall, even in the application around unsprung or rotating mass. They are strong enough and should last from that standpoint. I have never used them but would be somewhat concerned about galvanic corrosion of the steel studs themselves due to the dissimilar metals but honestly not completely sure how often that occurs.

But overall, it is more money for no noticeable benefit in the long run. They look cool I guess so there is that.

Dear engifineer,

Thank you so much for your feedback! Indeed it's a normal street / track build that wants to add some "bling bling" to the wheels and match the lugnuts with the Spoon calipers blue.

My main concern is this: Rays makes competition wheels. And I'm sure about the quality of their products and I'm sure no wheel will just jump in a trackday at 200 km/h

Option Rays

Vaikhari in other hand is a brand I've just heard about the extended 30mm fenders. But don't know anything about them or the quality of the products. I know titanium is a very good material but how good will this lugnuts be? Was hopind I would find someone on S2KI that had bought this nuts.

Thank you for your feedback! All the best!

Agree with engifineer's assessment.

Just buy a new set of Ray's lug nuts if you want bling and are concerned with quality/name brand.

I'm using open ended steel ebay lug nuts that I bought for $32 + shipping. My car sees about 10 track days a year. I haven't stripped or broken a stud yet in 11+ years of tracking.

The tensile strength of T6 7075 Aluminum is probably pretty close to that of whatever Titanium those lug nuts are made of. The Ti is likely stronger in that regard.

I'm sure you'll be fine speaking purely from a material standpoint.

6Al--4V grade 5 titanium is quite a bit stronger than 7075-T6 aluminum, but aluminum is a lot lighter and maybe less likely to strip studs?

I got a set of Gorilla aluminum lug nuts this year for the hell of it, so far so good...

I've had a lot of different lugnuts in the past - historically, for track use I've only ran steel lugnuts. Aesthetics in mind, I could not find a steel lug nut that matched the original RAYS' ones, thus me going with titanium. The burnt finish and "weight reduction" aspects did not matter to me. I wanted something that looked like RAYS lug and didn't breakdown from use like aluminum. YMMV.

The ND I autocross has aluminum lugnuts. They work ok. Not sure I would ever spend money on an aluminum fastener though. While they work I just cannot get myself to choose a weaker part that may also be more prone to galling to save a few ounces per lug. Regular steel ones work well, last forever and that tiny amount of extra weight is pretty much negligible to us.

I’d echo what everyone else says. I like titanium parts but the lugs have always struck me as being way overpriced. They also get touched more than other fasteners on the car which means they will wear more. I have been a big fan of the project kics r40 lugs since they are 2 piece steel lugs (they do make others so keep an eye out that you are looking at the right one). There are other companies that make titanium lugs. I think titan does, amuse etc. they are all very pricey.

Last thing I’ll say about varkari. I had their fenders and the fit like crap and the overall quality was not good and that was the experience everyone I saw with the fenders had. Lug nuts shouldn’t have the same issues but I won’t be giving them any longer f my money again any time soon.
