Tread width list
Ok guys I’m new to the s2k world, just got myself a 03 spa pearl yellow. She needs new tyres so I thought I’d look on the forums and see what tyres are working for the S and what isn’t. Then I came across this tyre size issue: 225 oem or you have to go 245, tread has to be this wide and blah blah blah. So the best thing IMO that makes a lot of sense to me is the having the tread width 8.5(bc like it or not that’s how wide the oem tyres are and they desingned the car to run with 8.5 width) or as close as you can get to it. So in all my research to find something that would work, affordable and that preforms I made this list of tyres that are a 225/50R16 with tread widths over 8in. I couldn’t find some tread widths so forgive me if I didn’t list them all. All tyres that are not listed are 8in or below in tread depth or I just couldn’t find the width. NOW understand I am not telling you, recommending you or suggesting anything! This is just a simple list of tread width’s I have found. If you have found a tyre I have missed please add.

Thing 1: forget about the stickie and the tremendously overstated "need" for 245s. Forget you ever saw it. 225 rears are FINE on the AP1.
Tread width isn't anything like as important as other factors like compound and internal construction. Don't pick tires based on which has greater "tread width".
Base tire selection on wants/needs/worst-case usage. What do you *really* want/need?
Competing, and tenths MATTER?
Ultimate warm-weather dry grip?
Ultimate warm-weather dry AND wet grip (i.e., drive in the rain?)
Possible cold weather usage (particularly if wet)?
Possible snow/ice usage?
Tire life a factor?
Tire price a factor?
Pick the BEST tire for your usage regardless of "tread width".
BTW, by discounting 8" and below, you left off one of the absolute grippiest 225/50-16s out there, the Hankook RS-3. It will WAY outgrip any of the 8.5" width tires listed in the dry.

I knew someone would find something to moan about. I'm a newb for sure but if im making a list of widths for myself i figured i would share so you didn't have to go through every single tire. Also i said if its not listed, its below 8 or i couldn't find it. If yall know so much what do you recomend and why? i want to stick with my stock 16's and i'm not going to autocross and don't want all season bc this car is only going to be drivin on nice dry days but still want something thats going to handle great. I was thinking the RE-760's but they weren't the right tread width from what i read. But I still don't know whats the right thing bc of peoples opinions and reading two different things
Skip the first tire on this list, and go down the line from there. Every single tire in this line up will offer you the best performance possible for the kind of driving you do. Extreme summer category in your size.
