Ok, please forgive me in advance, I've read through this and still have a question so I wanted check with you guys since you all clearly get this stagger/wheel/tire setup better than I do--

I just bought (yesterday, registered today) a MY2000 AP1, with stock/OEM rims F&R and the TireRack Eiback Pro Plus Suspension kit (basically springs, sways and bushings from what I've seen) and some HR spacers to flush the rims out to the edge of the fender.

This was all on the car and all done by PO, I just picked it up and washed/clayed/waxed it, that's it on my end.

The car has been sitting under a cover in a garage for over a year, so it's in overall great shape but the tires are crap.
The fronts are Potenzas RE92s with a date of Jan 2008 and the rears are (newish) non-matching, non-brand A/S from Wal-Mart (I think)

I understand the idea of Stagger vs Square, but I also own a 2006 STI that has a spare set of OEM Forged BBS 17" (5x114.3 17x8 +53) with winter tires on them.

They come from Subaru with 225/45/17s on them, and I've been running 245/40/17 Direzza Star Spec Z1 & Z2s on the road and the track without issue.

Instead of putting Direzzas on the OEM S2K rims and instead of buying new 17/18" rims, can I run the STI's BBS 17" (17x8 +53) with 225/45/17 fronts and 245/40/17 rears?

While the rims are the same, so less ideal than the OEM rim stagger, I'm still going up +20mm stagger for the rear tires and both of those tire sizes are within spec for those rims/rim widths--and I would be running my forged rims for the price of tires + Mount & Balance...

I assume new rims are the best option, but would/how well would this work (IF it would)?

Yes. I would not call it ideal but it can be done. S2000 hub size (70.1mm front, 64.1mm rear) is larger than the Subaru wheel bore though. You will either have to run a small spacer (5mm) to clear the hub or machine the wheel bore out to at least 70.1mm. Since you are lowered, a fender roll may be necessary as well. Search google images and you will find people who have run these wheels.

No problem, I'd consider those an upgrade from stock AP1 wheels. Just make sure those STi wheels didn't come off an 04 with the 5 x 100 bolt pattern.

Yeah, no worries, they're my extra-extra set of OEM BBS rims for/from my 06 STI so they're 5x114.3

I've got my DD rims, my track rims and my winter rim set--these will be the winter set since I moved from Denver to VA and don't drive in the snow anymore due to the salt bath they love out here.

These aren't the prettiest rims as I bought them used with light rash, but they ARE straight and true and round, so for now I just want the AP1 rims off since the tires on them are garbage and I don't see the point in putting new tires on those rims since I can run bigger/better tires on the STI rims that are...just sitting around...

Since the S2K came with HR spacers already on it (X? in the front and 20mm in the back) I may get the jack out and mock up the fit with the winters on just to see how it looks/fits and see if it rubs. The winters are 225s but it should give me an idea...

Question in regards to the stock 16" rims..done a fair bit of reading and can't find the answer..

It mentions that the original tyres are:

Front:
16" x 6.5", +55 offset, 205 tire
Rear:
16" x 7.5", +65 offset, 225 tire

and that if you are not running the original Bridgestones we should be using

225/ ? / 16 front and 245 / 45 / 16 rear...

According to the chart the first line states 205 for a 6.5" rim.
Does a 225 actually fit with no issues? Also what height should I be looking for?


For the front:
205 tires: +43 offset minimum (6.5” to 7.5” wide wheel)
215 tires: +48 offset minimum (7.0” to 8.0” wide wheel)
225 tires: +53 offset minimum (7.0” to 8.0” wide wheel)
235 tires: +58 offset minimum (7.5” to 8.5” wide wheel)
245 tires: +63 offset minimum (7.5” to 8.5” wide wheel)

For the rear:
235 tires: +40 offset minimum (7.5” to 8.5” wide wheel)
245 tires: +45 offset minimum (7.5” to 9.0” wide wheel)
255 tires: +50 offset minimum (8.0” to 9.5” wide wheel)
265 tires: +55 offset minimum (8.5” to 9.5” wide wheel)
275 tires: +60 offset minimum (9.0” to 10.0” wide wheel)
285 tires: +65 offset minimum (9.0” to 10.0” wide wheel)

Disregard that outdated thread, stick with OEM AP1 sizes.

Agreed. Just go with the OEM sizes. The tread width may be a little narrower but its not a big deal.
