will 255/40 make a huge difference?

i have a set of work xt7 wheels. 17x7 47+ 17x8 47+. i am thinking of purchasing two 17x9 rear wheels for 255 tire . does anyone know if 255 will improve grip a lot over 245???

Not really. Width is important, but tire choice is more important if you're pursuing grip.

a distributor also told me that dont waste money for the extra 10mm. i guess i will just keep what i have now.

I used this setup, and you cant really tell any difference. This spring I will be going back to stock spec. Plus stock spec is a lighter tire, and gives you faster rotational spin.
