Winter Tires
 

Hey everyone. I need advice on my choices for winter tires for my S. I understand alot of you recommend the Blizzaks but what else do you guys use. I live in Connecticut so winters are pretty harsh. Help!! Thanks for any and all advice. :rev:

If they are truly harsh and you intend on driving in those conditions (as opposed to waiting for the "nicer" days), then you need the most aggressive snow tires you can find. Even with Blizzaks, you need to pick a model that is aggressive. The LM-22 is good for those "light" days, but for those conditions where you'll likely actually plow snow, you'll need the Blizzak WS-50. Michelin Alpins are also in the catagory of "aggressive". Although hard to find and may not come in the sizes the S2000 needs, Nokian Hakkas are probably the worlds most aggressive snow tire. On the other hand, they are expensive and do you really need something like these?
Almost all tire manufacturers make a decent snow tire. They vary in pricing. It all depends on your wallet and what kinds of roads you intend to drive your car. With the exception of really "light" days, all seasons tires will NOT do.

Just curious, how is the handling or ride quality of the Blizzak WS-50 different from the LM-22's on dry road or snow covered road?

My guess is the WS-50 will have a lower speed rating and more noises. :rolleyes: :hello:

The LM-22 is a "performance" snow tire. They will get you by most winter days where the roads have been packed down or plowed. They will be hard pressed to get you through really deep snow. However, their dry road handling is quite acceptable.
The WS-50 is a much softer rubber compound and thus, make a better deep snow tire. Their dry road handling is not as impressive and you would be disadvantaged.
For me, winter time, even when the roads are clear, is not the time I push my car at speed, so I don't mind sacrificing some handling. What I want is to be able to get through as bad a condition as it can get.

I ran LM22's on my S2000 last winter. They made it drivable but didn't exactly instill confidence. I have WS50's on my rear drive mini van and it absolutely rules in snow. If I had to do it all over again I think I'd opt for the WS50's. But it really depends on if you have no other winter driving options.

I have a winter car. However, from time to time, I still wanna drive the S. I don't want to get caught in a snow storm and get stuck in the middle of the road. It is quite embarrassing you know.

The only days I will be driving my S is when the road is clear. I think the LM22 will be sufficient. But you never know, New England weather changes so fast!

Oh, what is the speed rating for the WS50. Like 100 mph?

Could anyone tell me how the LM-22s are in the wet. I've got the opportunity to buy some of these with 2004 wheels, but since I live in London, England, it hardly ever snows. I mainly want something that will give more grip than the S02s in the wet. Will these do the job?
