Yet another beat to death RPF1 17x9 +45 QUESTION that I can't find the answer to
I'm usually very good with searching and finding the answers to questions but I cant seem to find the answer to this one. I have a feeling this setup will work but I have to ask it anyways to confirm and see if anyone's done it.
Looking to squeeze 17x9 +45 RPF1s on a buddy's stock bodied S2000 - he absolutely DOES NOT want to roll front or rear fenders nor relocate tabs. Car is lowered on Swift R springs. Will square 17x9 +45 with staggered 215/45/17 and 235/40/17 work with this setup? I would think worst case scenario, adding a UK spec alignment could work too. Tires will probably be Falken Azenis RT615K+ and those run narrow. (Side question: maybe even RT615K 245/40/17s with -3 camber could work too? Can anyone confirm this?) Thanks! |
My gut feel is no, he will have to modify the tabs on the front fenders. But someone else may have tried it. The rears are probably fine.

I'm basing the fronts off of this thread. A 17x9 +45 with a 215/45 is much better fit than a 17x8 +45 with 215/45 since it stretches quite a bit. I'm actually not as worried for the fronts. More so the rears and whether it will clear the fender lip and tab. I have seen 17x9 +63 with a 255/40 Ventus V12 clear no problem on a stock bodied lowered S2000 and 17x9 +40 with 245/40 Firehawk Indy 500 come very close to the tab. Fenders were rolled at the time but no tab cut yet. I feel like a 235/40 could have cleared it by a hair but because we already had the tire, we relocated the tab instead. No. Anything below +54 on a 9" wheel will require work to fit, even with stretching the tire or running excessive camber. If he wants Enkies, look into PF01 and nt03RR. They both come in fender friendly sizes of 17x9+60 & 17x9+63 respectively. |

Hell no they will not fit. They will rub very bad and destroy the fenders with out rolling the fenders. 215 is also not a approved size tire for a 9 inch wide rim. 235 is the narrowest tire for a 9 inch rim. |
I have PF01 SS 17x9 +48 with 245/40 square. my is rub a little on the tab. I just do a light roll and it fit nicely.

No they don't fit and you should be more worried about the fronts than the rears. The front fenders are FAR more fragile than the rears and the added piece is since the front wheels turn there is much more ability for them to actual catch and damage a fender. The rear can rub but really the main outcome of this is an annoying noise and some marks on your tires (the little rubber trim piece will also get crewed up but its not a big deal). You'd have to really bottom the car out hard or run some really insane wheels before actual damage occurred.
Frankly if he doesn't want to roll the fenders he should be looking at a wheel that comes int he right specs rather than trying to stretch tires and run more camber than is needed to make RPF1's fit. |

As Manga said and I alluded to, the front is your worry, not the rear. If the tire catches that tab, you will tear the fender lip. Plenty of S2k's that have had that happen to. +45 is just a poor fitment in this case.
I run 255 square with all the camber I can get on stock adjuster (about 2.5 degrees) with +63mm offsets on 9 inch wheels. I am lowered about an inch (typical STR setup) and no way would they work without the fender tabs rolled. That is 20 mm more tire on each side of the centerline of the wheel than a 215, but with almost 20mm more offset than an RPF1. Even if it fit close, I would be worried about it eventually catching the fender lip if you hit a big bump in a turn |
