Default ap1 vs ap2 track width

Today I was told the track width is different on an ap1 than on the ap2. Does anyone know if this is true?

Based purely off the wheel widths, I wouldn't be surprised at all. You can tell the ap2 wheels stick out a little more then ap1's, especially in the rear. Its nothing a new set of wheels cant change.

track width is from middle of left wheel to middle of right wheel. AP1 and AP2 have the same offsets, same track width front and rear.

^^^but the wheels are wider on the ap2 rear: 8.5/2 > 7.5/2

Looks to me like the track width, stock vs stock, is 1" greater with the ap2

That's correct, now add the extra 1" per wider rear wheel and you have 2" total wider track width on ap2. 1" up front. Pretty nice upgrade.

I guess that means I have a nearly 6" wider then ap1 track width Ran out of room on the inside, so I had to put it somewhere

Once more! Track width is from the middle of the left wheel/tire to the middle of the right wheel/tire. The AP2 wheels are wider, but the centers are in the same place. So the track width is the SAME: 57.9" front, 59.4" rear for AP1 and AP2.

If it *was* outside to outside wheel dimension, this is greater on the AP2, but by 0.5" front and 1" rear, not 1" and 2".
But it's not, it's centerline to centerline, so track widths are the same.

Your 1/2 right. As in 1/2" wider track width per side instead of 1". I will give you that. But if the offset is the same, the wider wheel has to go somewhere, half of which is to the outside which is where we are measuring track width. We aren't measuring total track width from the center line of the wheel, that's where offset is measured. You cant magically have it both ways, either its a higher offset wheel on the ap2 to cover the 1" added rim width, or its going to end up having a wider track width.

Put the cars together, and even visually you can see the ap1 wheels are more sunk in.

We *are* measuring track width from centerline to centerline. It's the SAME I tells ya!

Watching f1, eh?

Track *can* be defined as outside to outside, in which case the AP2 would have more track width, but in terms of vehicle dynamics/engineering, track width is center to center, and they are indeed the same.

Obviously I'm talking rim to rim and I believe Redcelica as well, because that's what matters where performance in stability is concerned, where the tire edge is making contact with the ground, anything else is semantics. You want to get into suspension dynamics, that's a separate facet of this issue.
