Looking to buy 4 new bf goodrich r1 tires for $100... but they were purchased in 2010...

they do not show any dry rotting or anything, like new. You think there could be anything wrong with them?

They were purchased in 2010 but when were they made? Look at the sidewall for the week and year they were made.
8 years is to old of a tire for me to run on anything I own.

I'd not buy 8 year old tires for my lawn tractor let alone any of my cars or trailers.

I just had a catastrophic blow out (not a flat) on an older radial trailer tire. Thought I'd been struck from behind. My own laziness as the best practice is to fit new tires to trailers every 4 years regardless of noted wear. Car tires normally wear-out before then the the practice is still good.

Replace tires when they get worn or when they get 6 years old... whichever comes first.

There's always a DOT and date code on the sidewall - week (1 of 52 weeks) + year

eg: "1017" = produced/made 10th week of 2017


That being said.... I would never ever buy 7 year old tires lol

When I bought my S2000 the tires looked to be at about 80% treadlife. I was driving in the rain and they lost grip so easily it was scary. Turns out they were 8 years old. Now, looking back at my younger days when I was poor and would buy used tires I recall that every time I ever had a flat it was on old tires. I also recall the poor grip of many of those old tires even when they had decent tread. Moral of the story is don't do it. They are not safe at that age.

Yes, they go bad. take the production code thing to heart. i've seen tons of cars with "great tires!" for sale, yeah they were great, 5 years ago.

7 years is the shelf life for most tires. but for high performance ones that should be on your s2k, you're luckily if they make it more than 5 years.

They are good for 6 years once they go on the car or 10 years from mfg, whichever comes first. I would not buy them because you do not know how they were stored.
