FWIW, the MPSS I put on my FD turned into absolute crap within 2 years, with half tread remaining. Like, lost all grip. Very weird... They were initially fine but apparently "aged out" in a way I haven't experienced since in 1993 when I drove my just-bought 240Z with Firestone 721 tires from the 1970s the PO had on it...

At *best*, the MPSS were a decent compromise and an OK tire, if overpriced. But at worst they were abysmal, diabolical even...

I'm very happy with my Sumitomo HTR ZIIIs. I've heard some negative feedback about driving in the wet, but I don't push the car on the rare occasion it's driven in the rain.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Does anyone have any experience with these tires on track or in the canyons? I do a lot of spirited driving and would like the tires to stick when I need them too.

I read that the v12's let go at the limit. Not to mention a buddy of mine lost control of his S with them. I haven't heard much of the Sumitomos other than a tire rack review that said they acted more like a 260 tread wear than a 300 tread wear.

Another vote for the Firehakw Indy 500's, great tires, I did some track days with them (they were my wet/cold weather tires) and while they didn't have the outright grip some of the Extreme Performance Summer tires have, they had plenty of grip and they were easy to drive at their limit.

I ran the v12 one time. They have very soft sidewalls which is did not like. Mileage wasnt great either. Wont buy those again.

Also ran the old conti extreme contacts one time. Sidewalls on the conti's are also on the soft side but they felt better than the v12. Tried those to get some more miles out of my tires but ended up with 12k out of them compared to 10k from rs3's. Mileage wasnt good enough to get them again. If they improved with the new tires, i imagine they would be pretty good.

I find that the V12 Evo's (actually the Evo 2's now) firm up a bit with some more pressure. Still their sidewalls do take some getting used to but they tend to shift a bit then take a set so it feels unnerving to some at first. I really DO like them in the rain which if you do a lot of travelling, you will run into. YMMV.

The Conti Extreme Contact Sport in our testing would be the superior tire. In fact they tested second only to the Pilot Sport 4S here at Tire Rack. The Sumitomo HTRZ III and the Hankook are very good for the money on a daily driver but not quite up to the traction of some of the big boys.
If I can help let me know.

Thank you guys so much for the info on the tires. I'm going to give the continental extreme contact sports a shot. I almost went with the FHI500 but I saw that continental had a really good protection program and satisfaction guarantee. If I don't like the tires I have 60 days to return them. Seemed like a no brainer to me

I will update once I get the tires mounted!
