JIM, Question: Keeping Handling Charecteristics Constant with stock?
I would like to upgrade to 17"'s and would at least want to go to 7" or 7.5" in the front and i have noticed that most people with 7.5 up front either go to 8.5"'s in the back or 9" Which will provide a closer front/rear ratio compared to stock and what tire sized should i choose to achive a stock front/rear ratio if i want to keep overall diameter constant. I have noticed that the MY04's have gone to 7 and 8.5 with 215?/245's will this produce a ratio like the MY00-MY03. I would like to keep the handling charecteristics as close to stock as possible but would like a little more grip!! THANKS IN ADVANCE! Also Jim@ tirerack can you get bronze VOLK TE37's in these dimensions and in s2000 offset and at what price with a comprable tire that will give me s0-2 like performance mounted/balanced and shipped. thanks

I will answer the easy one first, we do not carry the Volk wheels. Depending on the offset of the wheel you choose you would want to go with 225/45R17 and 255/40R17. You can also go with the 2004 set up of 215/45R17 and 245/40R17 rear but it is 1/3" shorter than your stock set up.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you

To keep your balance right TOTALY IGNORE the rated size of the replacement tires and look at the ACTUAL width and diameter.
You will find that many tires (especially Michelin/Bridgestone) are much narrower than others of the same ratings.
The stock fronts are 83.5% as wide as the rears. Another way to say it is that the rears are 1.2 times the size of the fronts.
I have noticed that several of the manufacturers have quit quoting widths in the past year, but I have also noticed that those that quit were the manufacturers with the narrower widths.
Also be careful that you are getting tread widths and not sidewall to sidewall width which are much wider.
Most of the people on the list that I have seen that have had to go to a larger front sway bar did so because of improper tire sizing. They bought by rated size and ended up with oversteer. For some reason the rears seems to be the most narrow of the bunch.
Let me give you a real life example on the BFG TA KDs. I ran a 225/255 set up. At those sizes the fronts were .3" narrower, but the rears were .6" narrower. I had oversteer like a mutha! But to look at the sizing I had oversized rear tires since everyone recommends 245. The car would have been undriveable anywhere near the limit with 245s.

Thanks but im still confused! When i calculate using 245 Which is like stock MY02 rear / 205 i am getting close to what you say as 1.2 but when i calc MY04 i get i get 1.14 however because the rear wheel is an inch wider than MY02 does that mean an extra contact patch of ten mm or a 255 which when compared to 215 gives a closer 1.18 ratio so would a more ideal setup to keep handling chars constant be going with a 255/215 setup instead of a 255/225 setup and what rim widths would accomadate this appropriate. Also Jim: I do believe in supporting our sponsers and buying from knowledgeable vendors so if i got volks shipped to you could you get me the tires mount and balance and ship them back to me?

lude: good question. Many LA folks use Arnel (id=arnel21) at America's Tire Company in Long Beach. Jim could ship there. Did you ask Jeff at Evolution re TE-37?
