Default Which Lugs should I use?

I have 18" Work Meitzer S2R wheels. Right now I am using the Lugs that came with the wheels. Should I change to different Lugs? If so which ones should I use?

Fow proper seating of the lug nut, it is very important that they have the correct cross section. OEM lug nuts have sherical or ball seats that have a curved cross-section. These mate perfectly with the spherical seats on the rim.

I don't know what kind of seat Work Meitzer rims have, but many OEM and aftermarket rims have conical or taper seats. This style has a flat, angled cross-section. If the Work Meitzers have a taper seat, the OEM lug nuts are not the correct ones to use.

Carefully inspect the part of the OEM lug nut that contacts the seat on the rim. You'll notice the curve in it. Compare that mating surface with the one on the rim. If the rim's lug nut seating suface is flat, you must use the correct tapered seat lug nuts.

i'm pretty positive the lugs that came with the Work wheels will work fine as is. But to be sure, do what Coraldoc said above and double check the shape of the lugs and location of where the lugs sit on the wheels.

Almost all of the aftermarket wheels we sell use a different lug than stock. I would check with the wheel mfg.

Jim, FYI, I've meant to tell you this for a long time, but this post reminded me...

When I bought my Prodrives a couple of years ago from TireRack, nobody informed me about the fact that different lug nuts were necessary. I got some thinwall sockets and a nice Gorilla breaker bar, but the fact that new lugs were needed was overlooked.

Of course, I took care of this when I got the wheels, but it should probably be on a TireRack checklist somewhere to make sure the buyer is aware of this during a purchase (if it's not already).
