More Rubber, Less Mass
I'm about to replace my stock '04 wheels.
I want to get the biggest contact patch possible, which probably means 245's up front and 285's in back. That will require 8" wheels with around 65mm offset up front, and 9.5" wheels with around 65mm offset in back. As most of the people reading this post know, there aren't too many wheels with those specifications, and the few out there seem to be real clunkers (25 pounds plus).
Three questions:
1. Anybody happen to know what the lightest 18" wheels in those sizes might be?
2. Is it possible to safely modify a wheel to increase its offset?
3. Why the heck isn't there a database of wheels with weights, sizes, and offsets that is searchable by any of those specifications? I have yet to see a source online that is anywhere close to complete. Assuming that such a database doesn't exist, what do you all think of starting one (just an Excel spreadsheet would be fine)? I'd be happy to get the ball rolling...

Make sure the car can take a +65 up front with a 245 tire. You don't just have to worry about fender clearance, you have to worry about clearing all the internal parts too.

Yes, an Ultimate Racing turbo is in the works, so I figured I might as well add some rubber now, while I'm buying new wheels.
Thanks for pointing out the wheel weight guide - unfortunately it doesn't list offsets, and some of the better wheels don't have adequate documentation available online (that I found).
So... anybody have recommendations for a light, wide wheel setup?
